From the Principal
Happy Wednesday Cherrydale Families!
We are excited to continue one of our favorite Cherrydale traditions—Beach Day! This special event gives students an opportunity to celebrate the end of the school year, spend time outdoors with classmates, and create lasting memories together.
Beach Day dates are:
🏖️TK, Kindergarten & 1st Grade – June 1
🏖️2nd & 3rd Grade – June 2
As we prepare for these fun-filled days, we encourage families to take time to review Beach Day expectations with their child so everyone can enjoy a safe, respectful, and positive experience.
The weather is expected to be warm both days, so please help students come prepared by:
- Dressing appropriately for the weather
- Bringing a water bottle to stay hydrated
- Applying and/or bringing sunscreen
- Wearing appropriate shoes for walking to and from the beach from Cherrydale
We are looking forward to another wonderful Beach Day experience for our students! If you have any additional questions regarding Beach Day activities, please reach out to your child’s classroom teacher.
Warm Regards,
Christine Firth, Principal

Around the School
Since early March, many of our 3rd graders have spent their morning recesses helping care for the butterfly garden. Through their hard work and curiosity, students have been learning how to identify and pull weeds and grass so perennial plants can thrive, while also discovering the importance of sunlight, water, and healthy soil for plant growth.
Students have explored the history of the “Steilacoom flower” (Lithophragma parviflorum), a native pink wildflower that inspired the indigenous name of Steilacoom and once covered the local bluffs and prairies. They have also learned about native insects, spiders, and pollinators such as hummingbirds, butterflies, and bees, and how gardens can provide important food, shelter, and water for wildlife.
Most importantly, students have demonstrated wonderful teamwork, responsibility, and community service while helping our garden grow and flourish.
