Welcome

Dear Sierra Bonita Families,

I’m excited to introduce myself as the new principal at Sierra Bonita! I already feel so grateful to be part of this amazing community. As we begin a new school year, I look forward to working together to support our students and make it a fantastic year of growth, learning, and connection.

What to Expect

As principal, my top priorities are student learning, safety, and overall well-being. I’ll do my best to ensure that every student feels safe and happy at school. In return, we hope to partner with you to help each child reach their full potential.

We ask for your continued support in encouraging your student to:

  • Be at school on time each day

  • Respect their teacher and all adults at school

  • Follow all school rules

  • Take responsibility for their learning and actions

To help foster a strong school culture, our theme this year is BEAR UP!

We’ll focus on positive behavior and character development by consistently using our school motto, “How to Be a Bear,” and reinforcing these core values:

  • Be Responsible

  • Exceptional Example

  • Always Hardworking

  • Respectful

We believe that when students feel safe, supported, and valued, they are better able to learn and grow. Thank you for working alongside us to help your student BEAR UP!

Here’s to a fantastic start—I can’t wait to meet you and your children soon!

Go Bears!

Mr. Gull
Principal

Kindergarten Screener

We'll be holding a Kindergarten Screener on July 29th. This brief meeting with one of our kindergarten teachers will help us assess where students are academically and socially so we can build well-balanced classrooms.

Class Lists and Open House

Class Lists – Available August 5th

Class lists will be available on the Infinite Campus Parent Portal starting August 5th. Please note that class placements are final and changes will not be made at this time.

We take great care when creating class lists and consider many factors, including academic and social balance. Input from parents and staff submitted prior to the end of the school year in May was reviewed during the placement process.

If you have questions or concerns, you are welcome to email me or stop by to chat in person. While changes cannot be made, I’m always happy to listen and support in any way I can.

Thank you for your understanding and support!

Open House – August 12th

We’re excited to welcome you to our Open House on Tuesday, August 12th from 1:00–3:00 PM. This is a great opportunity for students and parents to meet their teacher, see the classroom, and get familiar with the school before the year officially begins.

All general school supplies will be provided by the school (excluding personal items such as backpacks, water bottles, etc.).

To help offset the cost of supplies and student incentives, we’re asking for an optional $25 donation—or any amount you’re comfortable with. Donations can be made:

  • In the front office

  • Or online through the Infinite Campus Parent under the Fees section.

We appreciate your support and look forward to seeing you there! Portal under fees.

Cell Phone and Hat Policy

Cell Phones & Smartwatches – Policy Update

Recently, Nebo School District families received an email regarding a new cell phone policy, aligned with a new Utah state law. Below are the key highlights for elementary and middle/junior high schools:

Permitted Use of Devices

Students may use a personal electronic device only in the following situations:

  • To respond to an imminent threat to the health or safety of an individual

  • During a school-wide emergency

  • To use the SafeUT Crisis Line

  • If specifically authorized by an IEP or Section 504 accommodation plan

  • To address a documented medical necessity

Guidelines for Elementary & Middle/Junior High Schools

  • Cell phones and smartwatches may not be used during school hours while inside the school building.

  • Cell phones must be turned off or silenced and stored in a backpack, purse, or bag during the school day.

  • Smartwatches may be worn, but must be set so they do not receive or send notifications or calls.

Communication With Parents

  • If a student needs to contact a parent or guardian, they may use their phone in the front office or counseling office with staff permission.

  • This should be limited to urgent or crisis-related needs during the day.

Hall Pass Usage

  • Students may not take a phone with them when using a hall pass unless they are going directly to the office to contact a parent.

  • Smartwatches may not be used for calls, texts, or notifications during hall pass use.

Thank you for your support in helping us maintain a focused, safe, and respectful learning environment.

Hats at School

If you know me, you know I’m usually the first one who loves wearing a hat! That said, aside from special spirit dress-up days, hats are not allowed during the school day at the elementary level.

I understand that hats may have been allowed at some elementary schools last year, but wearing hats inside the building is not in line with district policy. Hats can quickly become a distraction, and removing them during the school day is one small way we show respect for our learning environment.

Thank you for your support in helping reinforce this expectation with your student.
