An Eighth Grade Exchange Edition #7
Did you know? Women's History Month began as Women's History Week in 1982, before expanding to a month-long celebration in 1987. The month of March was chosen to coincide with International Women's Day on March 8th. Another fascinating fact: when women gained the right to vote in 1920, Jeannette Rankin had already been serving in Congress for nearly three years, elected in 1916—four years before women could even vote for her! This special time gives us the opportunity to honor and learn about the remarkable contributions women have made throughout history.

D65 will continue to provide comprehensive sexual health instruction in our kindergarten through eighth grade classrooms this year. This instruction is aligned to the National Sex Education standards as required by the State of Illinois in the Keeping Youth Safe and Healthy Act (KYSHA).
Comprehensive sexual education is about helping students understand their changing body and build skills for healthy relationships. This is done in a manner that is developmentally and age appropriate, medically accurate, and provides information that fosters healthy physical and emotional development. Visit our website to learn more and review lessons at each grade level.
Morning Mentors - Tutoring Support at Nichols
Nichols Middle School offers a free morning tutoring program for all interested students called Morning Mentors. Nichols staff and Northwestern students will provide tutoring in all subject areas. This is a great opportunity for students to be provided with homework help, re-teaching of lessons and general study skills. Acceptance into the program is a two fold - first come, first served basis along with a continuous attendance expectation.
Sessions are held at Nichols Middle School, in the library, on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Sessions will run from 7:15-7:50 am. Light breakfast snacks will be provided free of charge. Students may also get breakfast from the cafeteria and bring it to the program. We are currently accepting. We ask that parents speak to their child(ren) and classroom teachers to determine exactly how much support is required. Please keep in mind, our goal is to serve as many students as possible.
