High School Counselors to Visit Middle Schools Soon!
- Your Wildcat Counselors are getting ready to visit all our feeder campuses soon. During these visits, we will be walking students through their course selections for 9th grade. Your middle schooler will be coming home with a Course Planning Guide listing all the 9th grade options for academics, electives and endorsements.
- We ask that you speak to your student about their options and help guide them to making the best course selections for them. A copy of the Course Planning Guide will then be returned to their MIDDLE SCHOOL counselor for entry.
- Before the summer, your student will have one last opportunity to make any adjustments as needed.
- If you or your student are uncertain about which academic level course to choose, we encourage you to start having those conversations NOW with your current 8th grade teachers.
- Be sure to attend our upcoming Parent and Student Information Night for further information about the programs we offer.

9th Grade Planning Guide and Endorsement Options
Below is a copy of the planning guide that your student will be asked to complete with your assistance. All course options available to 9th graders are listed. Students will need to select their ENDORSEMENT (from one of the five listed below on the planning guide) and be sure to select the corresponding endorsement course.
A few things to keep in mind:
- Your student will have an opportunity to sit down individually with a Sotomayor HS counselor to review their selections.
- If you have specific questions about athletics and/or other extra-curricular activities, we encourage you to reach out directly to those coaches/directors. Contact information can be found below and on our campus website.
- Alternate course selections are equally important as actual course selections. Please be sure to indicate alternates your student would be happy with having in the event it needs to be placed in their schedule.
- Athletic rosters are finalized at the end of summer and changes will be made accordingly once counselors receive sports rosters for the fall.
- For multi sport athletes, the sport that is in season FIRST will be placed in the fall semester schedule.
- Changes to course selection can be made up until the deadline. Students and parents will receive a Google form at the end of March to request their changes.
- Information about summer courses offered for 9th graders will be available at a later date. Stay tuned for more information to come towards the end of the spring semester from your middle school counselor/campus.
- Course selections may be subject to change due to graduation requirements, class size/availability and academic support due to 8th grade STAAR results.
