Good Morning,

Check Out the WECC Family Happenings!

Be sure to check out our WECC Family Happenings document for upcoming events and activities throughout the school year. Some of these events will provide opportunities for families to attend, while others may include opportunities to volunteer and get involved in our school community.

We will continue to update the document as new events are scheduled and will share additional information and details as each event gets closer. We look forward to connecting with our WECC families throughout the year!

This week- our students focused on learning important social and behavioral skills to create a positive and respectful classroom environment. They learned how to greet their peers warmly, practiced our classroom listening rules, and reviewed the school-wide PBS (Positive Behavior Support) expectations.

Why PBS?

We teach PBS expectations (Positive Behavior Support) and classroom rules to our preK students for several important reasons:

  1. Creates a Safe Environment: Rules help keep everyone safe, so students know what behaviors are expected to prevent accidents or conflicts.

  2. Promotes Social Skills: Learning expectations teaches students how to interact respectfully with teachers and peers, like sharing, listening, and taking turns.

  3. Builds Routine and Structure: Consistent rules and expectations give students a sense of predictability and security, helping them feel more comfortable and confident in the classroom.

  4. Encourages Positive Behavior: PBS focuses on reinforcing good behaviors and helps students learn what’s acceptable and motivating for them to behave well.

  5. Prepares for Future Learning: Understanding and following rules early sets a foundation for future school success, where more complex social and academic expectations exist.

In short, teaching PBS expectations and classroom rules helps preschoolers learn how to be part of a community, behave positively, and thrive in their early learning environment.

SAFETY:

As a friendly reminder, we ask that families please keep children from playing or congregating at the top of the front steps or in the front of the Adams building before or after school. The front of the Adams building is a place of business where WPS staff are working, making phone calls, and meeting with families. When children play on the steps, the noise can be disruptive, and the steps are not an appropriate or safe area for play.

We appreciate your help in keeping the front entrance a calm, safe, and respectful space for everyone. Thank you for your continued cooperation and support!

Reminders:

Important: As part of the 2026–2027 PreK school year, all families are required to attend on one of the following dates:

Positive Solutions for Families - Wednesday, September 30 at 6:30 p.m. OR October 7 at 6:30 p.m

This night is for parents/caregivers only. Positive behavior strategies used at school can be successfully carried over at home. We will discuss ways to help children recognize and manage their emotions, develop coping skills, and reduce challenging behaviors through consistent routines, clear expectations, and supportive strategies.

Have a great weekend!
