Update: Letter of Reconsideration Submitted for School-Based Mental Health Grant
The CVUSD's Mental Health Services team has submitted its letter of reconsideration for the federal school-based mental health grant. As previously communicated, the District was awarded this five-year, $11.3 million grant in 2022 from the U.S. Department of Education and was notified on April 29th of the halt of the nearly $5 million in expected funding to support student mental health over the next two years.
We share our gratitude for the letters and statements of support that were received from you, our community of shareholders. These letters and statements were attached to the reconsideration packet. We are filled with immense appreciation for the outpouring of support we have received from our students, families and the community.

Teen Tech Convention Returns: Inspiring 6th Grade Students Interested in STEAM
Last Thursday, 225 sixth grade scholars from CVUSD's five middle schools gathered at the Thousand Oaks Teen Center to participate in the eighth annual Teen Tech Convention. This STEAM focused event was open to CVUSD 6th grade students who are interested in science, technology, engineering, art, mathematics and other technical subjects as they relate to education and career opportunities. This interactive afternoon gave students hands-on opportunities to explore robotics, coding, art creation and more. Thank you to our GATE team and all of our phenomenal community partners who helped to make this event possible!
Congratulations to Angela Liu, 11th grade student from Westlake High School who was announced by Congresswoman Julia Brownley, as the winner of the 2025 Congressional Art Competition for California’s 26th Congressional District. Liu’s piece, “Get on the Bus,” will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol complex for one year.
Started in 1982, the nationwide Congressional Art Competition is sponsored by the Members of the U.S. House of Representatives and is an opportunity to recognize and encourage students’ artistic talent across the country.
Submissions from students in grades 9-12 across the 26th Congressional District were judged by a panel of local judges who work within the arts, academic, and social work fields.
Westlake High School 10th grade student, Sebastian Costache earned honorable mention in the competition for their art piece, "La Pescheria," which will be displayed in one of Congresswoman Brownley's local offices in Ventura County.
