September 30, 2022

Fall is heading to Mid Missouri with “Hornets On The Road” Homecoming 2022 next week, please review the focus for information on all the activities and note that schools will dismiss 90 minutes early Friday. We hope to see you downtown for the Homecoming Parade at 3 pm, and the football game as our Hornets take on Marshall under the Friday night lights at 7 pm where our Homecoming Royalty will be announced.

An essential part of our district’s continuous improvement plan is gathering feedback from our stakeholders to help us continue to improve. Anonymous surveys will be emailed to the various stakeholders and I encourage you to take this opportunity to provide your feedback on our schools. More information regarding the surveys and their distribution can be found below.

Thank you for sharing your students with us. It’s always a great day to be a Hornet!

FPS Activities Expectations

Fulton Public Schools' athletics and extracurricular activities are important to our district. The district asks that students and those in attendance follow guidelines to ensure our activities are a safe and fun experience for those involved and our spectators.

The expectation is that elementary and middle school students attend and remain with an adult for the duration. Middle school students are welcome to sit in the middle school section if they choose, but the accompanying adult must remain at the event. We also ask that students and other children in attendance are not running, throwing objects, etc as this can cause a safety concern.

Our Fulton Hornets love having community support during events and encourage attendance, in a safe/respectful manner.

Invest In Yourself: Attend Today, Achieve Tomorrow. Invest In Yourself: Attend Today, Achieve Tomorrow.

State Attendance Target: 90% of students attending 90% of the time.

No School - October 10th - Teacher PD

Our FPS offices will be closed on October 10th for Professional Development.

Trauma-Informed Schools Initiative

The Missouri Model: A Developmental Framework for Trauma-Informed Schools Initiative Publication

Pursuant to Missouri Senate Bill 638, Section 161.1050, the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) has established the “Trauma-Informed Schools Initiative.”

For the purposes of this initiative, the following terms are defined as follows:

  1. “Trauma-informed approach” - an approach that involves understanding and responding to the symptoms of chronic interpersonal trauma and traumatic stress across the lifespan
  2. “Trauma-informed school” - a school that:
    a. realizes the widespread impact of trauma and understands potential paths for recovery
    b. recognizes the signs and symptoms of trauma in students, teachers and staff
    c. responds by fully integrating knowledge about trauma into its policies, procedures and practices; and
    d. seeks to actively resist re-traumatization

The implementation of a trauma-informed approach is an ongoing organizational change process. A “trauma-informed approach” is not a program model that can be implemented and then simply monitored by a fidelity checklist. Rather, it is a profound paradigm shift in knowledge, perspective, attitudes and skills that continues to deepen and unfold over time. Some leaders in the field are beginning to talk about a “continuum” of implementation, where organizations move through stages. The continuum begins with becoming trauma aware and moves to trauma sensitive to responsive to being fully trauma informed.

School Violence Tip Line

You may have noticed a new School Violence Tip Line link on our Fulton58 website under the For Parents and Community tab. This is an anonymous tip line linked to the Missouri Highway Patrol's Courage2Report Missouri. To prevent school violence, they offer three ways to anonymously report a concern. When a tip is submitted it immediately goes to law enforcement and notifies the school administrators. Please take the time to watch the video below, and to read the Student and Parent Frequently Asked Questions.
