Parents and Caregivers,

MAP testing is April 23-25th. Thanks to everyone who sent snacks for our team! Please remind your students to charge their chromebooks each night and bring them each day.

We are getting to the time of year when supplies get low. Please check with your student to see if they have pencils, paper, folders, and notebooks that aren't in pieces. It's a great time to do a backpack clean out as well!

As we near the end of the year, please remind your student to return all books to the library and Ms. Camden's classroom. Students needs to make sure they have their own chargers that were checked out to them before Chromebook collection on May 13th. Students who have lost their chargers will incur a $60 fine.

Thanks!

ELA: Ms. Camden

We have begun our dystopian book club unit. Students are reading a dystopian book in groups of 3-5 students. They have begun analyzing the dystopian world by looking at the setting, rules & customs, and what happens to characters who break the rules. We have talked about conflicts, both internal and external, and learned that systemic conflict is at the heart of all dystopian stories. We will continue to look at power structures and resistance movements.

Students are required to read one choice book for April. They can complete the book form as soon as they finish the book. I am having a competition to see who can read the most books in April. I have already had students fill out more than one book form. Please help your child remember to read outside of school each day.

Math: Mrs. Kanallakan

This week we finished up our unit on surface area and volume. Due to limited time, students did not have a major summative assessment on the learning targets.

We are moving into angle relationships and a small unit on data. Students are excited everyday to measure and water their grass projects!

A reminder, most weeks students are assigned videos or Khan Academy assignments on Mondays and they are due the following Sunday. Students are expected to score 75% or higher to earn full credit.

Science: Mrs. Tobey

This week, we finished up our body systems unit with a study guide and test.

Next week, we will start our next unit about animal behaviors and plant reproduction. Students will learn how animals attract mates and the specifics on how plants reproduce.

Keep up to date with what’s going on in science class by looking at our Daily Agenda Slides

Social Studies: Mr. McGinnis

We have started our Civil Rights unit. Students research should be completed and they will be creating a 3 act play on their Civil Rights leader.

Watch a historically accurate movie or documentary with them and share your experiences or have grandparents talk with them about their recollections of the CRM.

MODEL UN

Students should be finishing their resolution. Civitas will pick 2 of our resolutions. Our General Assembly field trip on April 30th.

Students received their field trip form on Wednesday.

Please talk with your student about current events and the historical events that we cover. And if you are looking for a great documentary series, here are 2 that are on PBS, FRONTLINE and AMERICAN EXPERIENCE. Highly recommend both but please preview them.
