Message from Mrs. Doyle, Student Assistance Counselor Message from Mrs. Doyle, Student Assistance Counselor

zoom_out_map

Hi PHS!

I’m Ms. Doyle and I wear two hats here at PHS. I am your Student Assistance Counselor who helps with mental health and substance abuse issues. I am also your Anti-Bullying Specialist who helps students involved with Harassment, Intimidation and Bullying. This is the perfect time for me to explain my roles to you since we are between the Week of Respect and School Violence Awareness Week.

Last week, during the Week of Respect, we had spirit days to make us stop and think about things like appreciating our families and friends as well as being mindful of what we say and how we treat others. We also had an assembly arranged by the district to remind us of the different aspects of Harassment, Intimidation and Bullying. As the Anti-Bullying Specialist, I try to help students manage conflicts, but I also help students process when things have crossed the line. If you have any questions about a social situation, please contact me; I’m here to help sort things out!

adoyle@pthsd.net

Next week will focus on how we can prevent school violence by learning how to take care of our mental health as well as look out for people who are hurting or feel disconnected. Now that everyone is settled into their schedules and routines, some new stressors might be sneaking into our brains. To prevent anyone from feeling hopeless or desperate, we need to take care of ourselves and deal with stress. Your counselors are here to listen and offer suggestions to help you. Just send us an email and we will tell you when to come down to the Guidance Office. If you want an alternative to talking it out, visit the PHS Zen Den for cool options as well as helpful resources.

That’s all for now PHS. I’ll be dropping more helpful information in the newsletter throughout the school year so keep checking in.

Take care of yourself and contact me if you need any help. I’m here for you!

Warm Regards,

~Ms. Doyle

Student and Staff ID Cards Student and Staff ID Cards

This week we have added an additional level of safety and convenience through the implementation of student and staff identification cards. Please see the student expectations and code of conduct policy for ID violations:

Expectations:

  • Student IDs and lanyards must be worn around the neck at all times while in the building. This is a safety procedure and must be followed to assure the safety of everyone in the building.

  • The student name and picture on the ID must not be defaced or destroyed.

  • During PE and certain labs/experiments/activities, teachers may direct students to remove it. Students must make sure to put it back on when they leave class and are in the hallway.

  • Each student will receive one ID and lanyard free of charge.

ID Violations

  • Refusal or forgetting to wear your ID in the building is a violation of the Code of Conduct Policy and will result in appropriate disciplinary consequences under “Failure to Follow Procedures”.

  • First Offense (lunch detention), Second Offense (two detentions), Third Offense (Saturday Detention)

  • If an ID or lanyard is lost, a new ID and lanyard must be purchased by the student. While the new ID/lanyard is being produced, students will receive a temporary ID sticker to wear through the main office.

Replacing/Purchasing IDs

  • IDs can be purchased in the main office
  • ID or Lanyard - $3.00 each
  • ID & Lanyard - $5.00

Thank you for your cooperation and commitment to the safety and orderly operation of our building.

PTA Reflections Contest 2023-2024 PTA Reflections Contest 2023-2024

The New Jersey PTA Reflections contest is a great way to have your talents displayed and recognized! The theme "I am hopeful because..." is so broad and lends itself to so many composition pieces and works of art that I'm confident most of our students can participate. Please take a moment to review the contest rules and consider participating. You can even create a project to work on throughout the summer! Please click the link below to review the presentation.

Working Papers - New State Process Working Papers - New State Process

PHS Student Handbook PHS Student Handbook

Please take a moment to review our Student Handbook as we are committed to student safety and providing our students with an exceptional educational experience.

  • The first block of the day starts at 7:40. It is important that our students are sitting in their first class by 7:40. If students would like to have breakfast here at PHS, our doors open at 7:10.
  • Please take a moment to review your child's attendance in Genesis. For a full year course, students are not allowed to exceed 16 unexcused absences. Consistent attendance is the strong indicator of student success in high school. If you have any concerns about your child's attendance, please reach out to Mr. Kelaid or Mr. Bush.
  • Student cell phone use is limited to passing time and unit lunch. Students should not be using their cell phones during class time (in or out of the classroom).
  • Recording of any individuals while on school campus is a violation of the district policy.
  • Our student restrooms are open for use throughout the day. There should be no hanging out in the restrooms. We enforce a limit of 3 students in each restroom at a time. Students should not be entering the restrooms during passing. Student safety is our top priority.
  • During school and after school hours, students must be supervised by staff. Students should not be wondering about the building or entering the building if not supervised. After school, students must wait in the cafeteria while waiting to be picked up or take the late bus.
  • Should students require additional academic assistance, support is provided throughout the day, during lunch and after school. Please feel free to reach out to your child's teacher, guidance counselor, or Administration to help arrange assistance.

As always, if you have any questions or we can be of any assistance, please reach out to us!
