Financial Recovery 📈 Financial Recovery 📈

A note from Superintendent Deborah Rumbaugh

Hello Marysville School District Families,

We want to share an update on our financial recovery efforts in the Marysville School District.

We are making steady progress toward rebuilding our fund balance, increasing it by approximately 1% each year. While we are still operating under binding financial conditions, we are taking the necessary steps to adjust to reduced state funding and ensure long-term stability.

At the same time, we remain committed to prioritizing our community's interests and values as we make these difficult decisions. Our goal is to balance fiscal responsibility with the needs of our students, staff, and families.

We are mindful of our responsibility to be thoughtful stewards of public dollars, and we approach this work with care, transparency, and a strong sense of accountability to our community.

We are cautiously optimistic about the progress we are making and look forward to the time when we can more intentionally invest in academic programs, instructional materials, and curriculum to further support student learning.

We are on track to meet the state’s required fund balance of $7.4 million — approximately 4% of our total budget — by August 31, 2026.

Thank you for your continued support as we work toward a stronger financial future for our district.

Deborah Rumbaugh, Ed.D.

Superintendent

Shout-out to our Bus Drivers!

A big, heartfelt shoutout to the amazing bus drivers of Marysville School District. They are such an important part of our students’ day, often the first “good morning” they hear and the last friendly face they see before heading home. That daily connection makes a real difference for kids and for families.

We know their job isn’t easy. Between early mornings, busy routes, and all kinds of weather, you show up with patience, care, and a steady commitment to keeping students safe. Along the way, they build relationships, offer a smile when it’s needed most, and help create a sense of routine and comfort for so many students.

Families trust our drivers with their children every day, and that trust means everything. We appreciate their kindness, consistency, and heart you bring to your work; it truly doesn’t go unnoticed. We’re so grateful for our drivers and all that they do for our community!

No school on Friday, May 22 or Monday, May 25 🌻

It's labeled as a possible Inclement Weather Makeup Day on our School Year Calendar, but the weather has not been inclement!

That means there is no school on Friday, May 22, but the Service Center will be open that day.

Meanwhile, Memorial Day is on Monday May 25, which means there is no school and the Service Center will be closed for the holiday.

Uniting Stories: Marysville-Tulalip Coalition Survey

Uniting Stories, the Marysville-Tulalip Community Coalition strives to build healthy communities where children and families can live, learn, and grow.

As part of the Community Prevention and Wellness Initiative (CPWI) grant through the Washington State Healthcare Authority, the Coalition has launched a community survey and asks all parents, guardians, community members, and staff to participate. Coalition members work together to improve the lives of youth and families in the Marysville and Tulalip communities. The survey assesses risky behaviors in youth including drug and alcohol use and student safety.

The survey also helps to set priorities and goals for the coalition and allows us to gain additional funding for programs for students and training for staff.

Please take a few minutes to participate in this important survey. Your knowledge and expertise helps inform this work. To learn more about the Coalition, go to: https://www.unitingstories.com/

Click the links below to participate in the survey:

The Service Center is Moving! 📦

Last week, we shared information about the Service Center's upcoming move. Didn't get the message or missed it in your inbox? You can find it by visiting the NEWS section of our website HERE. 👀

What’s Happening

After the City of Marysville and the school district agreed to a property swap in 2024, most staff who currently work at the Service Center on 80th Street NE are relocating to new locations this year. Many of our SRVC office staff will move to the former City Hall building at 1049 State Ave in downtown Marysville. This property swap was part of the district’s overall efforts to reduce costs and improve our revenue forecast.

What’s the Latest This Week?

The State Avenue building is ready with phone and internet! Walls are painted, and our teams are preparing to move key items to the new building to prepare for our relocating staff. We are on track to begin moving the Finance Team the week of May 4 - 15.

As a reminder, the 80th Street Service Center will permanently close to the public by the end of June, and our first Board of Directors meeting at the State Avenue location will occur on July 20.

We will share additional information about hours of operation and access to the Service Center ahead of any changes. Our next update will be shared again directly with families and in this newsletter next week.

We had a great time meeting incoming kindergartners at our annual Kindergarten Readiness Open House yesterday!

The sunny evening was full of excitement and energy, as families met staff from their student's new school, explored community programs and opportunities, and journeyed outside to learn their way around a school bus! Staff from other key departments, like our Multilingual Family Liaisons, Food Service, and Health Services teams, were also there to answer questions from families and explain key processes and resources available within the district.

Starting kindergarten is a big deal, and the purpose of this annual event is to ensure families feel better informed and connected as they prepare for this exciting new chapter.

A special thank you to all the families, our school and department staff, and community partners who joined us there – including the Tulalip Education Division, Marysville YMCA, Kloz 4 Kidz, Girl Scouts, and the Marysville Parks Department.

We are so excited to welcome the class of 2039 this fall! (Yes, that’s really when our incoming kinders will graduate – and don’t worry, we’re feeling super old about it too.)
