What's Happening in our Schools What's Happening in our Schools

Teacher Paige Petersen (second from right), assisted by student teacher Niqui Blodgett (left), runs an after-school program at Columbus called Web Writers. The budding journalists learn about writing, interviewing and illustrating their work.

The team publishes their work on the school website. Check it out!

The work begins with an editorial meeting when Mrs. Petersen checks in on story status.

Many of the stories are illustrated with original comics.

Reminder: Parent Roundtables

Next Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. is my first monthly roundtable meeting with parents.

While I hope to move to in-person meetings soon, this month will be via Zoom. The meetings are intended to be open conversations about how the district can better meet the needs of your children.

You don’t have to RSVP and you don’t have to stay the entire hour. Join me!

Get involved! Join the PTA!

Did you know the PTAs add thousands of dollars every year to enrich your child’s school experiences?

From book fairs to craft nights to carnivals, the PTA builds community and adds to the resources available for teachers to use in the classroom.

Find out how to join here.

Community Shoutout

Thank you to all the volunteers to make our “Ready! For Kindergarten” program possible!

The community program targets baby, toddler and preschool families and provides age-appropriate strategies (and books and toys!) to help their children develop early learning skills.

The program wouldn’t be possible without the many community members who have volunteered over the years.

When we go back to these sessions in person, we’ll need more volunteers, but those helping in the Zoom years include Ruth Valdez, Mary Dressel, Amy and Jace Widmer, Margie Johnson, Emma Velazquez, Sayra Monje Suraez, Kellie Morris, Dolores Ibarra and Barbara Curtis.

Thank you volunteers and helpers!
