26 Pay Cycle - Why DCSD Is Moving to 26 Pay Cycles

As we approach the July 2026 launch of the 26-pay schedule, HR would like to highlight what this means for all employees. Change, especially when it affects pay and benefits, can raise questions, and our goal is to provide clarity, transparency, and support throughout the process.

Beginning July 1, 2026, DeKalb County School District will transition from 24 pay cycles to 26, with employees receiving pay every other Wednesday.

This change is based directly on employee feedback. Many staff members shared that the current payroll schedule, with paydays falling on different days each month, can make budgeting and planning difficult. The new biweekly schedule creates a more predictable, employee-friendly payroll experience that better supports our workforce.

What's Changing? What's Changing?

Starting in the 2026–2027 school year:

  • Employees will be paid every other Wednesday.
  • Paydays will follow a consistent biweekly schedule.
  • Employees will receive 26 paychecks per year instead of 24.
  • In some months, employees will receive three paychecks.

When Will This Begin? When Will This Begin?

For 12-month employees, the new schedule begins in July 2026, with the first check of the new 26 Pay Cycle coming July 15, 2026.

For 11-month, 10-month, and part-time employees, the new schedule begins in August 2026, with the first check coming on August 12, 2026.

What's Staying the Same? What's Staying the Same?

Your annual salary is not changing. Instead, your annual salary will be divided across 26 pay periods rather than 24. Because of this, each individual paycheck will be slightly smaller, but the total amount you earn over the year remains exactly the same. Benefits, retirement contributions, hourly rates, and contract days are also not changing.

Why This Matters? Why This Matters?

The move to 26 pay cycles is about creating a system that is easier, more transparent, and more supportive for employees.

Easier Budgeting

Employees will always know payday falls on a Wednesday, helping families plan bills, savings, and expenses with greater consistency.

Faster Payroll Support

If a payroll issue occurs, employees will no longer have to wait through an entire weekend for assistance. Payroll staff will be available on Thursday and Friday to help resolve concerns more quickly.

Earlier Pay for New Employees

Under the current system, some newly hired teachers may wait more than a month for their first paycheck. The new biweekly schedule significantly reduces that wait time and helps new employees access pay sooner.

Employee-Centered Approach

While many school districts across Georgia pay employees once per month, DCSD is moving to a more frequent and predictable payroll model because we believe in prioritizing our people.
