Meyer Star Spotlight!
September 11, 2026
A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Meyer Families,
What an amazing first few weeks we have had at Meyer! Our students continue to impress us each day as they settle into their classrooms, build relationships, learn routines, make new friends, and grow more confident in their school community. It has been so much fun watching Meyer come to life and seeing our students begin to feel that this is their school.
THANK YOU to everyone who joined us for Back to School Night last night (Principal's Presentation HERE)! It was wonderful to welcome so many of you into the building and give you an opportunity to spend time in your child’s classroom, connect with our teachers, and learn more about the year ahead. We know that a strong partnership between home and school makes such a difference for our students, and we are grateful to have you as part of our Meyer community.
Last Friday, we also held our first PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) All-School Assembly of the year! We came together as a school community to review what it means to be a Meyer Star and the expectations that help make Meyer a safe, kind, and welcoming place for everyone. One of the highlights was singing our theme song, “Together,” as an entire school! We also had a special visitor this week as Mr. MAC made his way around the Meyer grounds during arrival. There is something pretty special about starting the day with our students, families, staff, and Mr. MAC as one Meyer community!
Our beginning-of-the-year assessments are now complete! These assessments give our teachers valuable information about where each student is starting the year and help us better understand their individual strengths and areas for growth. Our teams will now begin using this information, along with what we are learning about students each day in the classroom, to plan instruction and determine how we can best support every learner throughout the fall.
Please take a look through this week’s Meyer Star Spotlight for updates, reminders, and everything you need to know about what is happening at Meyer.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Marty Heffner
ENRICH MEYER!
Program Overview: Welcome to Meyer’s Afterschool Enrichment Program, Enrich MEYER. We are excited to provide Meyer Kindergarten students with a variety of unique courses that focus on particular areas of interest.
Enrich MEYER: Afterschool Enrichment courses engage Kindergarten students in hands-on learning that helps them practice new concepts in different ways. All courses are hosted at Meyer and take place after school between September 22 and November 19, 2026. Each course runs one day per week, and students may enroll in a different course each day (Click here to register).
SCHOOL AND FAMILY SHARED SUCCESS TEAM
THANK YOU to those families who joined us for our first School and Family Shared Success Team event, which was an opportunity to come together, connect, and discuss topics that help our students thrive both at school and at home. Throughout the year, conversations may include play, screen time, social interactions, learning opportunities, and other topics based on family interests.
Our next meeting is Tuesday, September 22nd from 6:30–7:30 PM in the Middleton Library! We will be using feedback and ideas from the last meeting to determine topics we will discuss.
SCHOOL SAFETY AND DRILL INFORMATION
We had a successful bus evacuation drill this week! Thank you to the students for being such good listeners and learning the routines that help make everyone safe!
Families can learn more about the District’s safety procedures, required drills, and how we approach school safety by visiting the School Safety & Drills webpage. Additional information about school safety and drills is also included in the latest District Updates newsletter.
Upcoming Meyer Safety Drill Dates
September 30, 2026: Fire Drill #1 during the school day
October 1, 2026: Evacuation Drill during the school day.
We will preview each drill with our students in an age-appropriate and supportive manner ahead of time. Our goal is to help students understand what to expect so they feel safe, comfortable, and prepared when participating in each drill.

ATTENDANCE
Attendance
If your child will be absent from school, please use Attendance Monitor; directions are found here. While using Attendance Monitor is preferred, you may also call 847-673-1223 and follow the prompts to report the absence. We will contact the parent of a child absent from school if the school has not been notified in advance that the child will be absent. Please also use these methods to report late arrivals and early dismissals, as described in the District Handbook. The telephone numbers you provide during e-registration will be used for this purpose. If you have questions for our office staff, you may contact them via email at myoffice@sd735.org.
