Spotlight on Digital Citizenship: How to Deal With an Information-Filled World
Throughout this school year, students will participate in digital citizenship lessons during their advisory period. These lessons will focus on the responsible, ethical, and informed use of technology and the internet. Digital citizenship includes understanding how to interact safely and respectfully online, protect personal information, recognize and prevent cyberbullying, and respect the intellectual property rights of others. To find out more about digital citizenship and why it's important, explore the Common Sense Education website.
In November, students will participate in a lesson on Critical Ignoring, emphasizing how we can focus our attention in an information-filled world. The internet is saturated with information, more than our brains could possibly handle on their own. Knowing what information to ignore is just as important as knowing what to pay attention to. In this lesson, students are introduced to the process of critical ignoring, a strategy they can use to manage the information they consume online.
To go deeper on this topic, use this family activity (en espanol) at home.
