Message From the Principal: Focus on the Process
PHS Parents & Guardians:
As we settle into the rhythm of the school year, I want to share our perspective on preparing students for their successful transition to adulthood.
While good grades are undoubtedly important and reflect strong effort, we encourage both students and parents to focus primarily on the process of learning rather than just the final outcome.
The final grade is a measuring point, but the process is the development of the essential skills and character traits needed for true success and independence in adult life.
Building Success Through Core Values
The daily pursuit of excellence in high school is the training ground where students develop life skills rooted in our three core values:
Accountability: Taking ownership of their success and actions.
Integrity: Doing the right thing, regardless of whether someone is watching.
Respect: Treating all individuals with consideration, even during disagreement.
When a student prioritizes showing integrity over taking a shortcut on an assignment, or when they take accountability for managing their time for a project, they are building the resilience and character that truly drives future success.
We want our students to do their absolute best, but we believe that focusing on these values—the how of learning—is the most critical step toward achieving independence and thriving in a fast-changing world.
We look forward to continuing this partnership with you.
Sincerely,
Jason

SCHOOL SAFETY UPDATES
Important Safety Drill this Week
Dear PHS Parents,
This week, we will be conducting an important, comprehensive safety drill as part of our ongoing commitment to school security and preparedness. These drills are essential for ensuring our students and staff know how to react calmly and safely in a genuine emergency, and our goal is to increase security through preparedness, not to cause alarm.
Our drill will take place on Thursday, October 23rd, at 11:00 a.m. (the beginning of 4th hour).
Safety Drill Preview: Transitioning from Lock-in to Lockdown
This drill is designed to practice a specific transition from one safety status to a more urgent one.
Phase 1: Lock-in (Soft Lockdown)
The drill will begin with a Lock-in announcement.
Purpose: To secure the building when there is a potential threat in the general area outside the school, but not an immediate threat to the building itself.
Action: Students and staff will secure the perimeter of the building while classes continue as usual inside. This is a precautionary measure.
Phase 2: Lockdown (Hard Lockdown)
We will then transition the drill to a full Lockdown.
Purpose: To respond to an immediate threat or danger to the building, staff, and students.
Signal: The official Lockdown announcement will be made over the intercom.
Action: All individuals must immediately follow established safety protocols, including moving out of sight, securing doors, and remaining silent. No one should attempt to move or engage in any building sweep activity.
Our Commitment to Safety
We will thoroughly prepare students and staff for this procedure ahead of time to minimize stress and maximize learning. We will also have law enforcement officials on site to monitor our readiness and provide feedback on our protocols.
Regular drills, along with continuous checks of all entry points to ensure they are locked and secured, are vital parts of our overall school safety plan. Thank you for reinforcing the importance of these necessary preparedness exercises with your children.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the school office.
Sincerely,
Jason
BULLYING HAS NO PLACE IN OUR SCHOOL! RESPECT MATTERS
Thank you to PHS STUCO & Leadership for leading our Anti-Bullying campaign this month. The core of our Advisory lessons is this: mutual respect is essential for a safe, positive school environment.
Please remember the critical safety requirement: if you witness or experience any incident that impacts the safety of our students or staff, you must report it immediately.
Always utilize the anonymous STOPit reporting app, which is linked conveniently at the top of every newsletter and on our website.
Please video linked below of student leaders discussing anti-bullying campaign with principal.
