Important Update from Principal Fernandes
Dear 6th and 7th Grade Families,
After spring break, students will begin selecting their elective courses for next school year. This process will be completed online during the school day, so no paperwork will be sent home.
Students will be asked to select one year-long elective and one semester-long elective. The other semester is already scheduled with PE/Health, which is a required course.
Below are the elective options students will choose from, based on the grade they will be entering in the fall.
*New Course: Medical Detectives In this exciting new class, students step into the role of real-life medical investigators. They'll collect and analyze medical data, solve mysteries through hands-on projects and labs, measure and interpret vital signs, explore the nervous system, and investigate how diseases spread.

Math in Action
Our math classes are continuing to have a great second semester!
We would also like to remind everyone that we offer a Math Club from 2:45-3:45 each Tuesday and Thursday. After Spring Break, Math Club will be in Mr. Martin’s room on Tuesday and Thursday. Students do NOT have to purchase an ASB card to attend Math Club. Math Club is a chance for students to get extra support, retake assessments and continue to practice math skills.
Here is a look at what each of our math classes are currently working on.
6th Grade - Sixth grade mathematicians are connecting ratios and fractions with percentages, and using those connections to find percentages of numbers.. Our accelerated sixth grade math students are working thru finding the surface area and volume of three-dimensional shapes. Up next for them is working on statistical measures including mean, median, mode, range and outliers.
7th Grade - Seventh grade math students are working to convert between fractions, decimals and and percents, on the way to mastering solving percentage problems. Pre-Algebra math students are working with finding the area and perimeter of compound figures.
8th Grade - Eighth grade math students are exploring square roots and their relationship to the Pythagorean Theorem, as well as working with cubed roots.
Algebra - our Algebra students are starting to wrap up their unit with Polynomial Equations and Factoring. They have mastered adding, subtracting, multiplying and factoring polynomials. When we return from Spring Break, they will begin to graph quadratic equations.
Geometry - our Geometry students just concluded their work with transformations, concluding with an activity where they created a brand, logo, apartment or duplex using the different translations learned in the unit.
A great example of applying skills learned in Geometry
Examples of creative ways geometry students translated their skills with this activity
Another example of a student's innovative and creative use of geometry
