A note from Principal Ballard
Dear Winchester Avenue Families,
February is a special time at our school as we continue to grow, reflect, and strengthen our sense of community. This month reminds us of the importance of kindness, perseverance, and celebrating the unique strengths of every child. As students continue learning new skills and building confidence in the classroom, we encourage them to come to school ready to learn, listen carefully, and give their best effort each day.
February is also a time when we focus on caring for others—using kind words, helping a classmate, and making positive choices even when things feel challenging. These moments help shape not only strong learners, but thoughtful and responsible humans.
We are grateful for the continued partnership between school and home. Your support in encouraging regular attendance, positive behavior, and a love of learning makes a meaningful difference. Together, we are creating a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment where all students feel valued and empowered to succeed. Thank you for being an important part of our school family.

Snow Days vs. Remote Learning
In the event of inclement weather, and BCS schools are closed, or in the event that school is unable to open for any reason, we will follow the schedule listed below:
- Snow Days #1-5: Traditional Snow Days
- Snow Days # 6-10: Remote Learning Days
As of January 30, BCS has used all 5 traditional snow days. Any future inclement weather days will be Remote Learning Days following the schedule below.
Please see Our Instructional Focuses Below
High Impact Instructional Practices focus on ensuring all instruction is purposeful, rigorous, and student-centered. Lessons are aligned to grade-level standards and include clear, visible objectives that identify both what students must know and how they will apply that knowledge. Instruction intentionally builds academic vocabulary through curriculum-based opportunities for exploration and understanding.Teachers support students in moving from teacher-led instruction to independent learning through inquiry and gradual release. Finally, students are provided opportunities to integrate learning and produce original work by synthesizing information from multiple sources—building purpose, power, and practice in every classroom.
