Talking with Teens

This month's wellness video is about Talking with Teens. This video was made by Kennedy Halling who is one of the Parent and Youth coaches that works with our school district. She is the owner of The Family Room. She is a former middle school family and consumer sciences teacher. She stepped away from the classroom to provide services specifically for families. She provides parent coaching and support to parents of teens and she works one on one and in small groups with teens providing social emotional coaching and support as well.

If you need extra support to persevere through tough times in life, please ask about utilizing our EAP supports. You have access to counseling, coaching, and REALiving Connect Wellness Visits.

Each month we will try to provide you will a new wellness video, each with a different theme.

Cardinal Care: The Golden Rule Contest Winners! Cardinal Care: The Golden Rule Contest Winners!

The Golden Rule provides students with examples of how treating people the way you want to be treated can help spread kindness and help everyone make good choices. The golden rule ultimately inspires us to treat others with respect, kindness, and fairness. Research suggests that for emotional well-being, you should treat yourself the way you'd want others to treat you as well. Utilizing the Golden Rule creates an atmosphere of safety and belonging.

Elementary students were able to voluntarily enter a contest to draw a picture and write a story about when they treated someone else with kindness, or the way they would like to be treated. The winners are pictured below!

Update on therapists since the HSHS Sacred Heart and St. Joes and Prevea closures

80% of the therapists from the Chippewa and Eau Claire Prevea Behavioral Health clinics have signed with The Remedy. They anticipate their new office located in Eau Claire to be ready to see patients in early May. Prevea Behavioral Health is currently allowing the therapists to continue seeing clients at Prevea for most of April. We have not currently partnered with The Remedy for School Based Mental Health.

The therapist that was working in our school district from Prevea has signed with Lakeside Counseling Center. Lakeside Counseling Center is opening a new office in the Eau Claire area. They have signed an MOU with our school district to offer School Based Mental Health. We are anticipating a smooth transition for her to continue seeing all of her current students.

How to Refer a Student for School Based Mental Health

The referral process to refer a student for School Based Mental Health (SBMH) services or to the Student and Family Assistance Program (SFAP) has been revamped recently. We would like to share the updated Referral Process Flow Charts along with the new Staff Member Referral Form which is now a Google Form. This information can be found on the cardinalcare.info website and is located under Staff Resources.

An important step in the staff referral process is to connect with Pupil Services staff in your building to have a discussion before making the referral.

All Parent and Youth Coaching referrals should also be communicated with Pupil Services staff in your building and that information can be emailed to Shannon Larson at larsonsr@chipfalls.org OR mentalhealthnav@chipfalls.org. You do not need to complete the Staff Member Referral Form to refer to Parent or Youth Coaching.

The Staff Member Referral Form can be found HERE.

What is a Professional Coach?

As a professional striving to be your BEST, you may seek someone at times to help you achieve a goal or improve your performance. A coach is there to help with professional development in areas such as organizational skills, leadership development, communication skills, and work/life balance. Important questions to ask yourself as you start the coaching process are: "What do I want to get out of this? What abilities and skill sets do I want to discover and master? How do I want to show up differently so I am my BEST?

A BESTology Professional Coach can also help you navigate setting up EAP resources.

CONSULTATION AVAILABLE!

Any staff member can call 855-838-7170 at any time for consultation. This means you can call and ask for support if you are seeing a student with high behaviors or if you see a trend in your classroom. REALiving can help give you some ideas of what to do.
