Good afternoon, Surfside!

Congratulations to the Sharks soccer team, who won their game this week against Valley. The final score was 7-0! The team played an excellent game.

It's exciting to have a front-row seat to the progress made on the construction of our new school. Every week brings progress and we are looking forward to the first wave of move-ins to a couple of the new buildings sometime in the next few months.

Finally, please know that we are grateful to partner with you in preparing your students to build a future they can be excited about. Have you taken time to log on to Aeries and check your student's progress and status at school? It would be worth your time to check grades and attendance. Please check it out and let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you,

Principal Frandsen

Construction Update

  • The rain came, and construction continued. Currently, the crews are working on preparing the ground and laying the base layer for concrete sidewalks, steps, and ramps. The work on the interior of the existing buildings continues as cabinets are being installed, walls and ceilings are being finished, and utilities are being wrapped up. It's going to be a very busy November and December as the first set of buildings are completed.

Elementary School News

Dear Families,

Students have been working well on their packets and I already am seeing some great improvements. Please let me know if you would like me to support your child(ren) more in math, reading, or writing when they come in person because sometimes I ask if they need help and they decline, but you know they need help in specific areas. Families who have let me know, I have seen many “a-ha” moments happening as I might word things a little differently or show them a new strategy. Thank you for doing an amazing job with your child(ren) in our program. It really shows!

8:00am-8:30am~Book #1: The Adventures of Caterpillar Jones (recommended for all Grades). We will finish this book this week and then start the 2nd book in the series: The Adventures of Nut E. Squirrel

New District Cell Phone Policy

"During the Day, Off and Away"

To create a focused learning environment and support student mental health, Oceanside Unified School District will now require all student cell phones to be off and stowed in backpacks upon entering campus and remain off until leaving. Exceptions are made for students with IEPs or 504 plans if specified for medical or anxiety-related needs, as determined by site administration. Classrooms have landlines for students to contact parents if needed, and students will have access to their phones during emergencies. The policy aims to reduce distractions, enhance engagement, and prevent cyberbullying, while also reducing the risk of phone theft or loss. Support and disciplinary actions for policy violations could include warnings, phone calls home, and phone confiscations, with increasing consequences for repeated offenses. OUSD is committed to student safety and mental health, fostering academic and emotional growth. For more details, refer to OUSD's Handbook.
