Fri 23rd January

Friday 23rd January
A note from Mrs Fitzsimons
Our pupils have had a fantastic week! They’ve thrown themselves into their learning with enthusiasm and determination, achieving great things academically. Even more impressively, they’ve continued to grow as kind, confident, and thoughtful young people. We’re incredibly proud of what they accomplish in a week.
This is a big weekend for our SEAG pupils in P7 who receive their results tomorrow. We wish them all the best and will be thinking of them all tomorrow morning. But remember P7s, if it doesn't turn out as you hoped, you are so much more than a result on a piece of paper and we will find the best place for you as you move forward.
We have had 2 near misses with children crossing the road at the dropped kerb and walking out without looking. We have talked to the children about Road Safety in Assembly and are taking each class out in the next week to practise crossing the road safely. We would really appreciate it if you spoke to your children at home about this too. In both incidents it was a P6/7 child who we allow to go out of the gate without a parent.
Have a lovely weekend,
Mrs F
On Mon 26th Jan the Ballymaglave Road will be closed from school car park to the Magheratimpany Road. You will not be able to get to school via the Ballymaglave Road on Monday, use Spa Road instead.
Action Cancer visit Assembly
A representative from Action Cancer came to school today to receive the money we raised for them through our pre-loved Christmas Jumper sale and Christmas Jumper Day. Our Eco-Committee presented them with a cheque for £400.
They've done it again!
Congratulations to our brilliant team who went to race in Tollymore today. Such great ambassadors for our school. Lily won the girls' race and Jay won the boys and Jenny came 5th. There's no stopping this team.
BEE Safe with P7
P7 enjoyed a day out on Monday with other P7s from the community at a BeeSafe event. They enjoyed informative sessions with the PSNI, RNLI, Fire Service and more. They also learned about travelling safely by bus, lots of very useful learning as they move on to post-primary schools next year.
Friends of Spa- Beat the January Blues
Emma Spence
Anyone who was at our night with Emma Spence could not help but come away taking notice and finding joy in the world around us. It was so interesting to listen to Emma tell us of her creative journey and a little bit of the story behind each painting. She then did a demonstration for us of all the techniques she uses. Thanks to all of you who supported this. One more night to go! There are a few spaces left for Yoga but not many. Link below.
Book Fair comes to Spa
Book Fair has been really busy and will be open for business until Mon afternoon. If you can't get in to school you can also use the QR code below.
P5 visit Ulster Museum
P5 had a trip to the Ulster Museum on Wednesday! We started our visit by exploring the Ancient Egypt exhibition and saw Lady Takabuti. Then, we took part in a workshop called “Treasures Under Our Feet” where we learnt about rocks and fossils. Finally, we completed our Ancient Egypt workshop where we learnt about the process of mummification as well as discovering some of the jobs the Egyptians might have had, including embalmers, make up artists and jewellery makers. We finished the day with lunch and a visit to the gift shop!
P6 enjoy Shared Ed. with FunFit.
P6 had a fantastic day at Saintfield Community Centre for their second Shared Education session with St Francis Primary School. Our focus was ‘Be Active’ in connection with ‘Take 5 Steps to Wellbeing’. A fun-filled PE day with coaches from FunFit leading our session. 🤩

We are really enjoying our new reading books which Friends of Spa funded. As you will have seen on our School Development Plan, Reading is a strategic intent for the next 3 years. We are putting together a parent session on how to help your child to learn to read and develop a love of reading as they progress through their primary years. This will be one not to be missed. More info will follow.
