Message from Ms. Athanson

Thank you to our families, students, faculty and community for a GREAT first week back!!! Our students new and returning got in the groove of being back with style and grace.

This week our focus across campus was building community in the classrooms, reviewing expectations and processes and navigating campus. Along with this all students began to dive into curriculum and learning.

Computer distribution has begun for middle school and will continue through Wednesday of this week. Students are expected to come to school daily with a charged computer. If you have a question regarding computers reach out to Mr. Droke for middle and Mrs. Foushee for elementary.

We have our first SAC meeting this coming Tuesday at 5:30. Please remember you must be there within the first 10 minutes for meeting credit. During this meeting we will review our School Improvement Plan, areas of focus for the year and ways that teachers will implement it in their classrooms. We will also have a breakout session for those middle school students interested in a trip to Boston next year. This is not a school sponsored trip but is run by two of our teachers. The breakout session will be in our media center.

Also, on Tuesday we have our Cross-Country tryouts immediately following school. Paperwork was due 8/14. A reminder, all paperwork must be turned in completed and students may not tryout without paperwork.

I want to take a moment to remind families to check out the flyer below on dress code. Shorts must be uniform shorts in navy, black, tan or grey. Athletic shorts are not permitted. Additionally, skirts may not be shorter than 3" above their knee.

Our carline is moving faster each day. Please remember to have your students ready to exit as you approach. Parents should not get out of their cars, nor should you park and walk your child across. Please utilize something to identify your students last name in the carline and leave this up until your child gets in the car. PTA is providing hang tags, and they will be distributed as soon as they come in. Middle school families should not use the elementary line for pick up at the end of the day.

Schoolwide clubs and tutoring will begin August 31st. A schedule will come out in the next newsletter that will include dates, times and locations.

Please review the section below for ways to volunteer. We have always had outstanding partnerships with our families within our Elementary and we would like to expand our volunteers to Middle. Reach out to Mrs. Lake if you are interested in volunteering in any capacity.

Middle school parents, our focus the first 10 days of school is making sure that all students have a full schedule and attend classes. We want students to get settled, explore their new classes and see what they have to offer before we accept any schedule requests.

A Fundamental school has strict academic and behavior standards. These are outlined in the handbook attached below. We allow a grace period for the first two weeks of school to acclimate to school expectations. This grace period will end, and expectations will be enforced beginning 8/24.

We look forward to next week and the weeks to come.

Fundamentals of the carline...

We have two lines for our carline. When you enter, the lane to the left is for elementary (red) and middle school line (blue) is on the right. All families will get a hang tag to display your name in the coming days. We suggest a creative name if you have a common last name to help ensure we have the correct student waiting for you to pick up. Please leave the tag up and visible until your student is in your car.

Drop off begins at 7:15. Students may not exit their car until this time. We ask everyone to pull up all the way to avoid gaps in the line and have an efficient and timely process.

Elementary school:

  • Elementary students will exit their vehicle in the designated areas
  • Students will head to the covered court area and remain supervised until class begins
  • If they wish to eat breakfast, there will be students to escort them to the elementary cafe
  • If you have a student in elementary and middle, you may choose either line to use and they may walk to their designated areas

Middle school:

  • Students may exit their vehicle from the covered walkway by the middle school office all the way to the cafeteria.
  • Students will enter the cafeteria and remail in their until the bell rings to release to class at 7:38.
  • Students that want breakfast will enter the elementary cafe to eat and then head to the middle school cafe till classes begin.

Pick Up for elementary begins at 1:55 and 2:15 for middle. Parents, we ask that you not arrive prior to 30 minutes of dismissal. Arriving too early blocks the flow of traffic for visitors, deliveries and early dismissal for appointments.

Early release for appointments: Parents, we understand that students need to be released early from time to time for appointments. We ask that if you need to pick up your student, please arrive prior to 30 minutes from dismissal (ex: elementary by 1:25, middle by 1:45). This will allow you to utilize the carline without issue.
