A Letter from Your Board President
Dear VATFACS Family,
It is with deep gratitude and great humility that I begin my journey as President of the Virginia Association for Teachers of Family and Consumer Sciences, Inc. Thank you for the trust you have placed in me to serve this remarkable organization. I am honored to continue the work of those who have led before me, and I look forward to cultivating a year of growth, collaboration, and celebration with each of you.
Before we begin this new season together, I want to pause and recognize our Immediate Past President, Dr. Amber Tiernan, for her outstanding leadership and service to VATFACS. Through her presidential theme, “In My Era,” she invited us to reflect on the rich history of Family and Consumer Sciences and to honor the founders, pioneers, and visionaries whose dedication planted the seeds of the profession we cherish today.
As I reflected on Dr. Tiernan’s message, one thought continued to bloom in my heart: Every generation is entrusted with the responsibility to tend the garden it inherits.
Our founders prepared the soil with courage and vision. Generations of educators nurtured those early seeds with perseverance, passion, and unwavering commitment. Because of them, we now enjoy the beauty of a profession that has flourished for generations.
A thriving garden does not bloom by accident. It flourishes because many hands lovingly prepare the soil, plant the seeds, nurture new growth, weather difficult seasons, and celebrate each blossom along the way.
Our association is no different. Every classroom lesson, every student encouraged, every family strengthened, every FCCLA chapter advised, every Educators Rising member inspired, every colleague mentored, and every leadership opportunity accepted represents another seed planted for the future of Family and Consumer Sciences.
Our work is demanding, often unseen, and sometimes misunderstood—but it is also among the most rewarding professions because every day we change lives.
As we journey through this year together, I hope we will continue cultivating the work of those who came before us while boldly planting new seeds for those who will follow. Let us tell the story of Family and Consumer Sciences with confidence. Let us mentor future educators, encourage one another to step into leadership, strengthen our partnerships with FCCLA and Educators Rising, and celebrate the trailblazers who continue helping our profession flourish across Virginia.
Most importantly, let us remember that gardens are never cultivated alone. They thrive because people work together. That is the heart of VATFACS.
When we share our knowledge, support one another, celebrate successes, and lift one another through challenges, our profession becomes stronger, our impact grows deeper, and our future becomes brighter.
As your President, my hope is that every member feels welcomed, valued, and inspired to bloom wherever they are planted. Whether you are just beginning your career or have spent decades nurturing others, your gifts, talents, and experiences enrich this beautiful garden we call VATFACS.
May the seeds we plant today become the legacy future generations will celebrate tomorrow.
Thank you for allowing me the privilege of serving as your President. I am excited for all we will cultivate together and look forward to watching our association continue to bloom throughout the coming year.
Rooted in Purpose,
Kimberly Wilson
