Westmoor Weekly 12/12/2025
December 12, 2025
A Note from Principal Eck
Dear Westmoor Families,
What a fantastic week full of learning and excitement! I think I hit my step goal every day, walking around and visiting classrooms. One highlight was my visit to the STEM lab, where our 4th graders are currently hard at work designing their own mini pop-pop golf courses, while our 5th graders recently wrapped up their amusement park projects. Both units give students hands-on opportunities to explore simple machines—like levers, pulleys, wheels and axles, and inclines—as they design moving parts and test how each component works. Their creativity is impressive, and it’s exciting to see their ideas come to life.
Next week, we’ll be wrapping up our classroom work while having some holiday fun. Spirit Week is coming up (see details below) with activities to get us all in the festive spirit. We’ll cap the week with our PTO-sponsored class winter parties—always a favorite!
A friendly reminder: please send us photos of your family celebrations and activities over the break! We’ll be showcasing them on the school’s lobby monitor so we can celebrate together as a community. The kids love seeing the pictures when they arrive at school—it’s such a joyful way to share our holiday memories. Here’s the link.
Stay warm this weekend—it’s going to be a chilly one!

Westmoor Featured on Insight 28 Podcast
This season of the district's Insight 28 podcast takes listeners behind the scenes of the exciting changes happening across our schools as part of the district's Build 28 initiative, made possible by our community's support of the $94.9 million referendum passed last spring. The third episode of the year focuses on the design plans underway at Westmoor, with special guest Principal Eck. Click here to give it a listen!
Information About Head Lice
Northbrook School District 28 follows guidance from the IDPH and CDC in handling lice. While lice can be a nuisance, they are not a health hazard and do not spread disease. We encourage families to check their children regularly and any time there is a concern. Please also remind children not to share personal items such as combs, brushes, hats, or clothing.
Per IDPH guidelines, and to protect student confidentiality, the district does not conduct preventative lice screenings or send classroom notifications when a case occurs. At this time, Westmoor is not experiencing a lice outbreak.
If you have any questions, please contact your healthcare provider or Nurse Woodward at awoodward@northbrook28.net.

THANK YOU WESTMOOR FAMILIES!
We collected all of these toys for our toy drive and Mr. Matt dropped them off at the Northbrook Police Department on Wednesday. They were so happy to add these to what they have collected in the Village.
District 28 Weather/Outdoor Policy
Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather. The District 28 weather policy is: Students go outside for recess every day as long as the "feels like" temperature is above 10 degrees. We use weather.com to be consistent. There are some days in the morning that it will not be warm enough to be outside but by lunch recess it will have warmed up. Please send your student daily with the items they will need throughout the day. Winter has rapidly descended upon us, students must have boots, snow pants, and gloves to be allowed to play in the snow.
Share a picture with us!
We’re excited to showcase the special moments and achievements of our students and their families. Whether it’s a holiday, cultural tradition, a child’s milestone like riding a bike without training wheels, a big win at a soccer game, welcoming a new pet, or anything else that makes you proud — we’d love to feature it! Here is the link to share a photo and brief description.

DISTRICT NEWS
Attention 4th Grade Families: Math Placement
If your child is not currently placed in advanced math and you wish to request a math placement review, this parent nomination Google form must be completed by January 12, 2026.
Parent nomination Google form links can also be found on the District 28 website, under Gifted and Talented. Please visit our website for additional information on the district’s Gifted and Talented Services and District Assessments.
If you have a child in grade 3 or grade 5, you should have received an email on November 17 with information on placement review. For grade 5, this includes a review of all students for math placement in the winter and spring of their 5th-grade year. This process determines placement for 6th grade into one of three math courses: Grade 6, Accelerated 6, or Pre-Algebra 6.
