Good Morning Memorial Families,

We had an absolutely magical week at Memorial. We participated in kindness activities, all school meetings, acts of kindness, spirit week, and even a kindness-themed StoryWalk on the third floor. If you walk around our school right now you will see notes of kindness on student lockers, doors and bulletin boards with kind messages, and even a giant kindness quilt that we all contributed to. We do have one final hurdle to cross. I promised our students that if we documented 6,000 acts of kindness that I would dress up like a chicken for the day. We are still waiting for many students to return their kindness checklists to tally up the final number. Please encourage your child to turn theirs in by tomorrow!

I am very happy to report that our illnesses seem to be slowing down a bit over the past week. If you have a moment to show Mrs. Ryan your appreciation, I know it would mean a lot. She has worked harder than anyone ever the past two months to keep your children in school and provide so many of you with guidance on quarantining and what to look for if your child is a close contact. As we move towards more surveillance testing (see button below), I hope that she will be able to spend less time doing COVID monitoring and more time doing the day to day nursing that she loves so much. As I have reminded everyone for months, it is very important that if your child does not feel well that you keep them home. That is the single best way to keep everyone healthy.

We haver reached the mid-point of the 2021-2022 school year. Our kindergarten and first grade students are getting excited for the 100th day of school that is quickly approaching. We are also in the midst of our mid-year assessment blitz. All students are taking the iReady math and ELA assessments to look at how they are growing this year. This assessment is compared to the start of year and will pinpoint areas that we may need to hone in on with your child. We also are conducting mid-year DIBELs reading instruction assessments on many students and will use that data to guide our next steps in reading instruction across the building. We will have one more assessment period in May that will help us look at overall learning trends across the grade levels and guide our instructional decisions for next year.

I hope everyone has successfully dug out from the storm on Saturday. It was quite a doozy!

Have a wonderful week!

Warmly,

Wendy
