Principal's Message
Dear Boyd Families,
October was a wonderful month at Boyd! Thank you to our PTO, Huskerland Popcorn for its generous popcorn donation, and all the families who supported our second annual Read and Treat Literacy Night. It was a joy to see our scholars and families enjoying literacy activities and treats together!
We also thank our families and PTO for providing snacks, drinks, and pizza for our teachers during conferences. Your thoughtfulness and partnership mean so much as we work together to help our scholars learn and grow.
As we enter the colder months, please do not let the chilly weather keep your scholar from school. Every day brings valuable opportunities to learn, build friendships, and grow. Every minute matters, every day—and we are better when we are together! Please help your scholar arrive on time and dressed warmly.
Be sure to explore this month’s newsletter for announcements and upcoming events, and mark your calendar for our winter concert on December 18!
During this season of gratitude, I am especially thankful for our scholars and for the trust you place in us each day. I encourage each of us to pause and appreciate the good in our lives and the people who make a difference.
With gratitude,
Dr. Station, Principal

⛄🧤🧣 Dress for the Weather 🧣🧤⛄
As temperatures begin to drop, we want to remind everyone of our winter outdoor play guidelines to help keep students safe and warm. We know how important fresh air and movement are, even in colder months, so please send your child to school dressed for the weather each day.
Students should come to school dressed warmly each day in a winter coat, hat, gloves or mittens, and boots. On snowy or extra chilly days scarves and warm layers (like a sweatshirt or fleece under their coat) are encouraged to help keep them warm and comfortable.

📚 Academics 📚
Keep Reading & Growing! 📚
Families, thank you for being our partners in learning! Please continue to encourage your scholar to read for at least 15 minutes each day and remind them that their participation matters. Asking questions, sharing ideas, trying their best, and staying engaged all help our scholars grow into stronger readers and learners. Together, we can help every scholar succeed!
🏫 ATTENDANCE 🏫
As colder weather arrives, we often see a decrease in attendance. Every school day matters—elementary school builds the foundation for future learning, and consistent attendance helps scholars develop the skills needed to meet state educational standards.
If you need support getting your scholar to school, please contact Dr. Station at Ayesha.Station@ops.org so we can connect you with resources that may help.
How You Can Help:
- Bring your scholar to school every day, on time, and keep them here all day.
- Schedule appointments after school or during school breaks whenever possible.
- Establish a consistent nighttime routine that allows for at least 8 hours of sleep.
Be Here. Every Day. All Day. Because We Are Better Together!
🦫 Behavior 🦫
Changes in Behaviors-Need Family Support
We are noticing an increase in classroom disruptions, difficulty following teacher directions, refusal to remain in the learning enviroment, and difficulties maintaining safe hands. A safe school helps scholars learn, grow, and build community. Please remind your scholar to show their Beaver Best—Be Safe, Be Respectful, and Be Responsible—by following directions, using words to express feelings, and treating others with kindness.
How You Can Help: Reinforce the 3 B’s at home by reminding your scholar that you expect them to:
- Be Safe — keep hands, feet, and objects to themselves and follow safety procedures.
- Be Respectful — use kind words, listen to adults, respect others, and accept redirection.
- Be Responsible — follow directions the first time, come prepared to learn, and take responsibility for their choices.
At Boyd, we are building strong readers, tomorrow’s leaders, and a brighter Beaver community. We are Better Together, and we appreciate your support in reinforcing our behavior expectations and the Student Code of Conduct.
You are part of our Beaver community, and We Are Better Together!
📱 Stay Connected with ClassDojo📱
Communication is Key
ClassDojo is our primary communication tool between teachers and families. Teachers use Dojo to share important information, updates, and messages. It is also where families can see the Dojo Points their scholar is earning for demonstrating our 3 B’s—Be Safe, Be Respectful, and Be Responsible.
🦫 Earn It. Save It. Celebrate It!
Scholars can use their Dojo Points to:
- Redeem points every two weeks for fun prizes and activities.
- Earn 60 or more points each quarter to participate in our Beaver Best Celebration!
Families Can Help: Check ClassDojo at least once each day, celebrate the positive points your scholar earns, and encourage them to keep making choices that show their Beaver Best!
Not connected yet? Contact your scholar’s teacher for ClassDojo sign-up information so you don’t miss important school and classroom communication.
Morning Drop-Off & Afternoon Pick Up Reminders
🚪 Morning Drop-Off
Our doors open at 8:30 a.m. Please stay with your scholar until that time, as supervision is unavailable before the doors open. With colder mornings here, please make sure your scholar wears a warm coat, hat, and gloves while waiting to enter. Thank you for helping keep our scholars safe and warm!
- NEW PROCEDURE: If your scholar arrives after the tardy bell (8:50 AM), a parent or guardian must accompany their scholar(s) to the office and sign them in.
We also want to make sure families are familiar with our afternoon dismissal procedures. Following these expectations helps us keep dismissal safe and running smoothly for everyone.
- Dismissal begins at 4:05 PM. We encourage families to keep scholars at school through dismissal whenever possible. Our teachers teach bell-to-bell, and leaving early means missing valuable instructional time.
- If your scholar must be picked up early for an appointment, please plan to arrive before 3:30 PM. This allows the office to call for your scholar before dismissal routines begin.
- ALL minutes missed count toward student attendence. Please try to schedule appointments after school hours or during student days off.
- If your scholar’s dismissal plan changes, please notify the office by 3:00 PM so we have time to communicate the change and ensure your scholar gets home safely. You may also communicate changes with your child’s teacher through ClassDojo.
Building Visitors
⚠️ Parents & Guardians: Please Sign In
All parents, guardians, and visitors entering the building beyond the main entrance must first report to the front office and sign in. This includes families who are:
- Walking a scholar to their classroom
- Walking a scholar into the cafeteria
For the safety of all scholars and staff, please do not proceed to classrooms or the cafeteria without signing in at the front office first.
