We have a lengthy Cole Miners' Dig this week so I'll keep my notes brief. Spring has sprung and the school is a beehive of activity! Please check the important dates below for all of the spring events, field trips, and school activities. It's a lot to keep up with, but all of these special events help to make learning fun and celebrates the learning that is happening here.

Thank you to the PTO and families for the pickleball bag and racquet for Principal Appreciation Day. I was surprised as the day was not even on my radar. I'm looking forward to getting on the court and playing with my husband this spring. As I have said, it's easy and enjoyable work when you're surrounded by the best of the best.

Speaking of the best of the best, we'll be celebrating Teacher Appreciation Week and School Nurse Day on Wednesday of next week. The plans for the week are shared below.

This week's Magnificent Meerkats have been shining brightly at Cole School! Check out some of the reasons given for their nominations:

  • He is a super kid, respectful classmate, and hard working student. He actively and eagerly participates in class each day. He works well with his classmates and tries his best!
  • He has grown so much this year as a learner as he has been working hard each day to show Whole Body Listening, extending his learning without a reminder, listening to and following directions. He should feel very proud of his effort!
  • She is a Magnificent Meerkat because she is a friend to everyone and helps to make everyone feel special and important. She is very helpful and is always smiling at everyone she sees - her teachers have been proud of her hard work all year!
  • She is consistently a hard working student. She always gives her best effort and is not afraid to tackle new challenges. She’s had so many successes this year because of that!

This week, we started the Courage unit at SEL time, which will be our final unit this year! We talked about courage not being the absence of fear, but instead, courage is pushing through fear and doing what you need to do. This week, we focused on having the courage to be kind, starting with kindness to ourselves. Before the year ends, grades K, 2, and 4 will have lessons with me on personal safety (which covers privacy and identifying trusted adults). If you have a child in those grades, look out for a separate email with more information.

We continued our Volleyball Unit this week! We worked on bumping, setting, and serving over the volleyball nets. Grades 3-5 were able to use those skills to start playing games.

Nurse's Nook Nurse's Nook

Allergy season is upon us. If your child has seasonal allergies make sure they are started on their regular allergy medications.

We have seen an uptick in stomach bug cases going around. Your child should be symptom free for at least 24 hours and able to tolerate a few meals before returning to school. If your child is sent home from school due to vomiting or diarrhea, they are to remain out of school the following day. Oftentimes it can be a few days for the child to feel well enough to return depending on the strand of the virus.

There are still many cases of strep throat circulating. With a strep infection, a fever, headache, stomach ache, vomiting and/or a sore throat may indicate a strep infection. If diagnosed with strep throat, your child must complete a minimum of 24 hours of antibiotics and be fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication before returning to school. It is very possible to have recurring cases of strep throat. Make sure to change out toothbrushes and follow up with your provider for any continuing or rebounding symptoms as there are many cases in which a child requires an additional round of antibiotics.

Remember to send in any recent physicals the School/Sports/Camps forms for us to have on file. The doctor's office can give you a printed form anytime you go in for a visit or you can typically access it electronically via your mychart or gateway.

Student Government Student Government

Are you looking for ways to help your community? Would you like to find volunteer opportunities for your child to participate in? The Student Government would like to remind everyone that this weekend Norwell is hosting the annual Trash Bash. Take a few moments to pick up trash along your roadway or in any area of Norwell. We have a few yellow bags at the office at Cole that can be left for weekly trash pick up.

Look with your eyes, not with your hands. Do not touch any of the art work unless it is interactive.

Keep an arm’s length distance from the work.

Use quiet indoor voices.

Walk around the exhibit in a calm, slow manner.

No running in the halls.
