Remember, NO SCHOOL on Monday.
Parents dropping off in the morning, please be reminded that students are not permitted to be left at school before 8:30am. There should be an adult at the car line or front door prior to you leaving your child with us. This is for everyone's safety.
Lost & Found
There are many coats in our lost and found. They will be on display at the Carnival (2/25), please be sure to check it out if your child is missing a coat. The unclaimed items will be donated at the beginning of March.
Random Acts of Kindness was also a big hit! The students made cards to show appreciation to special people at home and school. Third grade even made blankets for a community service project.
Please take some time to tell us what you love about our school using the button below!
Kids Heart Challenge Update
Heyyyyyy Hillsdale!!
I am BLOWN AWAY by the generosity of our Hillsdale community!!
Todays KIDS HEART CHALLENGE was such a fun filled event for our students.
They jumped, laughed, & challenged themselves physically all for an amazing community service event.
As of this afternoon Hillsdale has raised $28,900 toward the fight against heart disease and stroke!!!
I’m super proud of all of our students efforts!
A BIG shout out to our 5th grade “coaches” who helped grades k,1,& 2!! They really did a fabulous job!

4th and 5th grade Track Meet
Is your child in 4th or 5th grade? We are excited to share that our annual 4th and 5th District-Wide Track Meet will be held this May. Our students will enjoy a day at the WCU track in a friendly competition against other WCASD elementary schools. WE WILL NEED YOUR HELP!!! The success of the track meet rests heavily on the parent volunteers. YOU WILL NEED YOUR CLEARANCES. You can visit this link on the district website for information for information about obtaining your clearances. We suggest you put in for your clearances now as they do sometimes take a bit of time to receive them back.
Save the Date to attend as a parent volunteer. More information will come with specific times.

Nurse Notes
- As we approach the field trip season, only EpiPens and inhalers that are kept in the nurses office will be sent on field trips. Parents need to provide a signed doctors order and a parent permission note. All medication must be in its original container and if it was prescribed by a doctor, the pharmacy label should be attached.
- In almost all situations, students are not permitted to self-carry or self-administer medication. Please do not put medication of any kind in your child’s lunch box and tell them to take it on a field trip.
- Cough drops are considered medication and should not be sent to with students. We have many students with life threatening food allergies including food dye. A doctors note is required if your child(ren) needs to wear a splint, sling, boot or use any type of assistive device (i.e. crutches etc).
A doctors note is required if your child(ren) needs to wear a splint, sling, boot or use any type of assistive device (i.e. crutches etc).
The note should include a diagnosis, treatment plan and the duration of treatment (if known). The note should also include any restrictions that your child(ren) would have during the school day (i.e. no gym, no recess, no activity that could cause fall or collision etc).

From The Wellness Committee
This is a good time of year to open up your house and air it out. Open windows on all floors, in the front and back of your house and turn ceiling fans on for 30 minutes. This practice should be done once a month to clear the air in your home. Also, change HVAC filters according to manufacturers recommendations.

Attendance and Pick Up Patrol Reminder
When your child is absent please update Pick Up Patrol to reflect this AND send us an email or note after the absence. Please also use PUP to communicate any appointments (late arrival/early dismissal) and/or any changes to your child's dismissal plan.
A few things to note:
- Pick Up means you are driving through the car line to get your child after 3:30
- Early Dismissal is for when you are signing your child out before 3:30pm for any reason
- Walker means you are walking to school or parking your car and walking up to retrieve your child.
Even with Pick Up Patrol, if your child is absent, we must have a note from you to explain the absence within 3 days of your child's return. Otherwise the absence is marked as Unlawful and you will be receiving a letter from the office. (No one likes sending or receiving these letters!)
Each child is permitted 10 parent notes and 5 family vacation days each year for absences. Please use the family vacation form below or email me (pmerten@wcasd.net) with vacation requests.
Doctor’s notes are appreciated whenever you see a doctor due to illness.
