🍎 Principal News 🍎
Malvern Families,
We hope you had a wonderful weekend! A huge shout-out to our Hawk Squad for greeting our scholars with high fives last week. It was awesome to see our students start the day with so much joy and energy!
The Hawk Squad is our growing parent group created to directly impact our students and staff in a positive and meaningful way. If you’d like to join this exciting movement and help us spread even more Red Hawk pride, check out the call to action in this week’s Malvern Messenger.
Our Believe Kids Fundraiser also kicked off this week! Check your child’s backpack for information. This school-wide fundraiser is a great opportunity to support Malvern while giving students a chance to earn fun prizes. Every order makes a difference, and we’d love your help!
We’re looking forward to another great, but short, week ahead with Monday’s holiday. Rest assured it will still be an impactful one! Our staff and scholars have been working hard to build strong learning communities and positive environments, and we are so proud of what we’re seeing in classrooms. This week, our Red Hawks will also practice their September fire drill.
Thank you for sharing your precious gifts with us each day. We love them, believe in them, and can’t wait to see them continue to rise!
Proud to be a Red Hawk,
Inetra Nelson, Principal & Melinna Herrera, Assistant Principal
Inetra Nelson, Directora y Melinna Herrera, Subdirectora

The Magic of a Mindful Minute
Life can feel rushed, especially in the morning or at the end of the school day. One of the best tools we can give our kids (and ourselves!) is the gift of a mindful minute.
A mindful minute is just 60 seconds of focusing on your breath. When you feel frustrated, worried, or overwhelmed, try this simple activity with your child:
- Stop: Find a quiet spot.
- Breathe: Take a deep breath in through your nose, filling your belly with air like a balloon.
- Pause: Hold the air for a moment.
- Exhale: Let it all out slowly through your mouth, making a gentle "whoosh" sound.
Practicing this simple exercise can help both of you feel calmer and more focused. You can even create a special "calm down" space at home!
Cafeteria & Meal Costs
Breakfast: Served daily from 7:40AM-8:00AM, including the first day of school.
Meal Prices: Student Breakfast FREE for all Malvern Elementary School students, Student Lunch $3.10, Milk/Juice and miscellaneous items will be available for purchase individually during meal times. Parents and visitors are welcome to buy breakfast or lunch as well when they visit. If you wish to limit the amount of “extras” your child can purchase, or not allow “extras” you can set this in your child’s online meal account. “Extras” and snacks are only available for grades 2nd-5th to purchase. Click here for more information on meals and payments.
Free/Reduced Meals: Applications for Free/Reduced meals are available through our front office or online at www.mckinneyisd.net/school-nutrition/free-reduced-meals/ .
If applicable, we encourage you to complete and return this form as soon as possible to avoid a lapse in benefits. Each year, the state allows a 30 day grace period for any students who were in the program at the end of the previous school year. If a new application is not filled out and approved, the student will be responsible for all meals at the full-paid student price.
Student accounts can be made at: My School Bucks - www.myschoolbucks.com
Recent changes in Texas law now require McKinney ISD to obtain additional parent/guardian consent before providing medical care through the school nurse or trained staff. The link below takes you to a consent form that is only available in English and Spanish. Parents can also access the consent form by logging into the SSO portal and choosing the MISD Parental Consent Form.
The language of the consent is below:
“ I agree and understand that the school nurse or other assigned staff may provide routine, health-related care services throughout the course of the school year. Signed medication forms(25/26), Individualized health plans(IHP)(25/26), or medical accommodations through the Individualized Education Plans(IEP), ARD or 504 will remain in force. I also agree that this includes that the district will seek appropriate emergency care for a student with or without consent, should it be deemed necessary.” YES or NO are the two choice options.
Once this form is filled out, a unique link is sent to guardian 1's email address that has the medical care verbiage as stated above. This form may only be completed by guardian #1. You must manually type your email into the consent box when prompted, not allow it to autofill. The email address must match the email address provided to MISD upon registration. Google Chrome is the preferred browser for compatibility.
Parent Consent for Student Club Participation
At McKinney ISD, one of our top priorities is making sure every student feels connected and has opportunities to get involved. We know that when students find activities, clubs, and organizations they enjoy, they build stronger relationships, feel a greater sense of belonging, and are more engaged in school. In accordance with Senate Bill 12, McKinney ISD requires parent approval for students to participate in any student club or organization. All student clubs and organizations must comply with district guidelines and state law.
Please use this Parent Consent Form to provide or deny permission for your child to participate in student clubs at our school.
By working together, we can make sure every student finds a place to belong and thrive.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Nelson and Mrs. Herrera
2025-2026 Learning Plans
Dear Parents, you may access the 2025-2026 learning plans for your child's class on our MISD Teaching and Learning website.
Visitors and Volunteers
MISD requires every visitor/volunteer to report to the office to sign in and receive a visitor badge. At the camera outside of the school, please state your name, show your ID, and explain why you are here at school.
A software system called “Hallpass School Visitor Management” is used to scan in visitors. A valid, unexpired state or government issued photo ID must be presented each time you visit, volunteer, or pick up a student. If you arrive on campus without your driver’s license, you will be asked to leave and return to campus when you have identification. A photocopy of your ID will not be accepted.
MISD requires that volunteers complete a criminal background check every school year. If you plan to volunteer anywhere in the building or chaperone a field trip, please complete the required volunteer application at http://www.mckinneyisd.net/parents/volunteer/
Visitors and volunteers may begin serving on campus beginning on Monday, August 25, 2025.
MISD will not offer a grace period this school year for you to complete your annual background check. All background checks must be completed and approved before you can serve on campus. Visitors and volunteers are welcome on campus during the school day (8:10AM-3:20PM) starting Monday, August 25, 2025. Thank you for allowing our staff this time to establish relationships and routines with our Red Hawks before welcoming visitors and volunteers on campus.
