Principal Update
Dear Y.E.S Families,
What a great start to the 2025-2026 school year we have had! It has been full of excitement, learning, and getting to watch construction progress! A few highlights of our year so far include:
Bounce houses and slushies to celebrate the first day of school
A new GaGa pit on our playgrounds thanks to PATT (Parent and Teachers Together) -- this has been a fun addition to our playgrounds!
Learning some new things about Y.E.S -- like the music classroom now being on the stage! Our project is very exciting, but we are still squeezed into the building! Mrs. Niemann has a make-shift classroom on the stage, and students are still getting to experience all Encores!
Construction continues to make great progress! Here is an overview of our progress:
The construction is completely separate from our functions as a school. Fencing separates all construction areas from us, and no construction has started within our building.
A new pick up loop was poured on the North side of the building, and soon, an additional entrance/exit to our back parking lot will be poured.
Walls are starting to go up! The walls you see on the west end are the walls for the early childhood addition. Soon, you will start to see the activity center walls go up too.
One of my favorite parts of this project has been our students watching the construction! Many students have stopped at the fences to watch cement being poured, holes being dug, and big construction equipment working hard!
2025-2026 is going to be a great school year! Learning is happening, and we can’t wait to watch your student make some great growth!

Arrival and Dismissal
Character Strong
We are excited to tell you that we will be using PurposeFull People this year, a program that teaches skills to help students be successful in school and in life. It is so much more than a set of lessons - it is a partnership between York Elementary and families to create a place where students feel like they belong and learn new skills that will help them be the best they can be! We cannot wait to partner with you in this work….
To teach students how to build strong friendships
To work together to solve problems, big and small
To grow skills for life
To become PurposeFull People
We kicked off the year with KINDNESS! In September we will continue our PurposeFull People activities with RESPECT. One way to think about Respect is “seeing value in all people and things & treating them with care.” Many people feel Respected in different ways and we hope this month inspires discussions with your family about what Respect means to you and how you can practice it together!
Student Survey Participation
At York Public Schools, we value feedback from everyone—including our students. Students in grades 3–5 will participate in the Humanex Student Survey this September 22nd. The survey is designed to gather student perspectives on how we can continue to improve our school. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
P.A.T.T. Fundraiser Update!
The fundraiser has started! Forms will be due back to school September 10th!
We are excited to try something new in addition to our normal fundraiser. We invite you to support our elementary school in the most impactful way possible by donating cash directly. Unlike the traditional fundraiser where a portion of your purchase goes towards our school, donating cash ensures 100% of your contribution benefits our students and school. Accepting cash or check.
Below are the different raffles to be entered in, based on cash donation.
To donate, complete the pledge form and make checks out to "York PATT". Together, let's make a lasting difference in the lives of our children.

Duke Branch of Cornerstone Bank
We are excited for another year of our In-School Savings bank, Duke Branch of Cornerstone Bank! Opening day for this school year will be September 18th. Students may deposit money into their account before school each Thursday morning.
If your student is interested in depositing money in their In-School savings account, permission slips are in the front office. Students who turned in a permission slip last year do not need to turn in another slip for this year.
We appreciate the wonderful community partners that help make this successful and help provide incentives for our students to save!
