LAND
Maggie Farrell's Land is epic: a slow, wandering exploration and a heartbreaking, sometimes difficult-to-read tale of family, community, and the importance of land. It is about the literal and metaphorical roots that connect the earth and the people who depend upon it.
I can usually binge even the longest books, but I both wanted and needed to take breaks from Land. I did not want to read a single page unless I could give it my full attention. At other times, I simply needed to set it aside and allow what I had read to percolate.
Imagine the detailed, layered earth. Imagine the lines and markings of a map. That is what Land is: a book of details and layers. Some are orderly and clear. Others are confusing or confounding. Some reveal beauty, while others expose devastation. Together, they form something expansive and amazing.
Land is life.

More of a Fun Fact...
Luxembourg is the world’s only remaining grand duchy. Its head of state is a grand duke, rather than a king or president. Grand Duke Guillaume assumed the throne less than a year ago, in October 2025, when his father abdicated. Heather is Luxembourgeoise and is in Luxembourg when this is sent. 🇱🇺
