From Principal McCray

Good evening families,

This week has been jam-packed with exciting things happening. Seeing our students at Meet-and-Greet and then walking through the doors of Arbor View this week makes our hearts smile. We love to see those excited faces walk into their classes and meet new friends.

Friendly reminder: We ask that families stay in their cars during drop-off and pick-up.

  • If you would like to walk your child to the door, please park your car so that we don't hold up the traffic flow.

  • Pets are not allowed in and around school areas. This includes bus stops. We ask families to be mindful of this as some students or family members may have allergic reactions. I know that students are anxious to see their pet at the end of the day but these animals can be disruptive to a school environment, scare students, and carry allergens. You can view the Board policy here.

Let's go, Roadrunners!

Reminder: District policy on cell phones and personal devices during school day

Per CCSD 89 policy, cell phones and other personal electronic devices must remain out of sight and may not be used during the school day. While recent state legislation mandating this takes effect in 2027–28, our district policy is already active. Devices must be put away throughout the instructional day unless an approved exception is documented with the district. This policy helps to minimize distractions, disruptions and privacy concerns. Read full FAQs for parents and students

If your child uses their phone to manage a medical condition or for an approved academic reason, families should complete the CCSD 89 Student Use of Personal Technology Waiver on an annual basis to request an exemption. Completed forms should be returned to the main office.

All CCSD 89 schools will be closed Monday, September 7 for Labor Day. School will resume with a regular schedule for all students on Tuesday, September 8.

The district's administrative offices will also be closed September 7 in observance of the Labor Day holiday.

Arrival and dismissal

Arrival and dismissal may take a little longer than normal as we get accustomed to our morning and afternoon routines. Please be patient as we work through this process. I promise by the second week, it will be a well-oiled machine.

Car riders will enter the school parking lot off of Teakwood Avenue and follow the signs for drop-off. We respectfully ask that families stay in their cars during the drop-off process. If you would like to walk your student to the door, please park in the parking lot.

Bus pick-up and drop-off may be slightly delayed during the first few days of school, as we want to ensure all students are accounted for and in their correct areas.

Students can begin arriving at 8:30 a.m.

First bell: 8:40 a.m.

School begins: 8:50 a.m.

Students will line up at the following doors:

  • All adults must bring a valid photo ID (driver’s license, state ID, or passport).

  • You will check in using an iPad in the school’s lobby.

Health Updates Health Updates

Important health information for the 2026-27 school year

If any student will need medicine at school, the medication authorization form will need to be filled out by parents/guardians and the student's doctor each school year. It should be turned into the building nurse prior to the first day of school. Parents are responsible for providing the school with any medications needed.

If a student has a food allergy or any severe allergy, there are surveys attached below to be completed along with the medication authorization forms.

If a student has asthma or seizures, there are action plans for both conditions attached below to fill out.

If your child has a prescription medication that they need to take at school, it must come in the original prescription bottle. If your child will be taking an over-the-counter medication, it must come in the original packaging.

Please note that if the school does not receive the documents and medicine before the first day of school, the student will not be able to take the medicine at school.

Please reach out to Nurse Dahlman if you have any questions.

Friendly Reminders Friendly Reminders

Be sure to review requirements before bringing food for other students

If you’re bringing food to school, be sure you know what is approved by reviewing the district's pre-approved food list at www.ccsd89.org/preapproved.

Remember to label items brought to school

All articles of clothing, boots, tennis shoes, backpacks and lunch boxes should be marked with the child’s name and grade or room number so they may be returned if lost. A lost-and-found box is located at each school. Found articles should be brought in immediately and children should check this box as soon as they lose an item. Parents are encouraged to occasionally go through the lost-and-found.

Fee waivers for school fees and school lunch program

The district uses two separate processes to determine eligibility for a waiver of school fees and for the free/reduced lunch program.

The district’s fee waiver application is available on our website at www.ccsd89.org/feewaiver or under the Board of Education tab, policy 4:140-E1 Application for Fee Waiver. The forms can be filled out and submitted with your income-verification documents directly to the district office (22W600 Butterfield Road, Glen Ellyn), attention Courtney Czerwinski.

If you have more than one child in the district, you may submit one application for free/reduced lunch and another application for waiver of fees. Both applications can be submitted at the same time with the necessary documentation to avoid any delay in processing.

If you have any questions regarding the National School Lunch Program application or fee waiver application, please contact Courtney Czerwinski at (630) 469-8900, ext. 3519 or cczerwinski@ccsd89.org.

Resources for helping your child through difficult times

Tragedy can affect a nation or a single family. Some crises happen suddenly while others build over time. Each situation can be difficult for children to understand and challenging for families to navigate. Our school has a counselor, social worker, and psychologist available to help students and families with strategies for transparent, age-appropriate conversations. The district has also posted additional resources at www.ccsd89.org/crisis
