Welcoming September!

It was a great week at BWMS.

Our teacher teams all participated in Data Teams this week to review STAR and Assessment marks. We also discuss classroom supports and corresponding interventions that reinforce our vision to Personalize Instruction, Engage Students and Grow Minds. We will be sharing these STAR reports soon via email.

I hope you have heard great stories at home about your child's school experience. There have been interactive Project Based Learning, bell ringers, discussion chats, lab experiments, small group reading and many more activities to inspire and guide our students to their maximum potential.

Have a great long weekend!

Sincerely,

Mr. Josh Frame

Important Updates

  • Staff members reviewed STAR assessment results this week in our Data Teams. STAR Reports will be mailed home soon. As a reminder, BWLSD uses the STAR Assessment as the Universal Screener. Our teachers review this information to provide targeted instruction and supports at BWMS. We offer Tier 2 instruction twice per week with computer-adapted programs (Reading and Math-iXL) during Advisory. In addition, BWMS offers Tier 3 supports daily for students in Reading and Math Lab courses. Please contact our student's school counselors or your content-area teacher if you have any questions.
  • Student Council elections will be happening soon and applications are due to Ms. Hayhurst by Tuesday 9/2/25 at 2:00 PM. Student council serves as a the voice of the student body as we plan for special events like pep rallies, dances, SOAR Days and Eagle Nights.
  • There is no school on Monday 9/1/25 due to Labor Day.
  • The 1st School Dance for 7th and 8th graders is Friday 9/5/25 and for 6th graders is Friday 9/12/254 from 6:30 - 8:00 in the commons. We will have a DJ play some good tunes and the kids will have a great time eating snacks from the concession stand. School Dances at BWMS are limited to our students and chaperoned by school staff. They are causal so no need to purchase a new outfit just for this occasion. The cost is $5.00 at the door.
  • STAR reports will be sent home in the mail on Friday 9/5/25. This will include information about tier 2 and 3 support in the areas of reading and math which would take place during our advisory.
  • The next BWMS PTO Meeting will be on Tuesday 9/9/25 at 7 PM.
  • There is no school for students on Monday 9/15/25 due to a Teacher PD Day.
  • The last day to register for the Big Nut Strut and be guaranteed a T-Shirt is Monday 9/15/25. This is a great community event on Sunday 10/12/25 and a great way to support our BWMS PTO.
  • Mid point of the 1st quarter is Friday 9/19/25. We call these Grade Update Days and we encourage all parents to log into PowerSchool to check the progress of their student's performance. We will share out the link to sign up for the first Parent Teacher Conference Night soon. If your student needs help getting into PowerSchool, please reference this document.

Other Opening of School Details

  • We appreciate everyone following our car line procedures to start the school year. Students have been arriving on time and getting to class before our first period bell. Please remember to drive slowly through the line, pull up to the furthest available space before dropping off, and DO NOT PASS cars while in the line. Thank you for helping us have a safe and efficient drop off process.
  • Interested in volunteering in Big Walnut Schools this year, please go to the following website and complete the process which requires 3 easy steps - https://www.bwls.net/VolunteerInformation.aspx
