Hawkins Happenings
October 23, 2026
It's been another busy week at Hawkins, and October continues to fly by! We're looking forward to our PTO Trunk or Treat tonight in the Hawkins parking lot. We'll have a sensory-friendly time from 5:30–6:00 p.m., followed by the main event from 6:00–7:00 p.m. There will be plenty of decorated trunks, treats, and a few food vendors if you're hungry.
Next Friday, October 30, we'll have our Halloween Parade at 9:20 a.m. We hope to see plenty of families lining the sidewalks to cheer on our students and check out their costumes. Please have your child wear their costume to school. As a reminder, costumes should not include blood, gore, or weapons. If it rains, the parade will be canceled, but students can still wear their costumes to school.
With parent-teacher conferences coming up, please make sure you've signed up for a time to meet with your child's teacher. It's a great opportunity to hear about your child's progress and ask questions.
Thanks for another great week, Hawkins families. We appreciate all you do to support our students and staff!
A Big Thank You to Our Parent Volunteers!
A special thank you to Catherine Keister, Veronica Henwood, Jessica Johnson, Andria Johnson, and Lisa Piegdon for volunteering their time to help make both picture days a success!
We appreciate your willingness to lend a hand and help take care of our Huskies. We're fortunate to have parents who are so generous with their time and willing to jump in when needed.
Did You Know?
Julia is nine years old and this is her fifth and final year at Hawkins as a very proud fourth grader! Most students at Hawkins know Julia by now, but we know there are always new friends, as well as, a whole new Kindergarten class who may wonder why there is a girl in 4th grade who may be their same height. Check out the information below for some great information for both you and your child with some insight about dwarfism, specifically achondroplasia.

School Hours

Attendance Line: 810-299-3904
Please remember to call the attendance line as early as possible if your child will be absent.
Lunch Times
The entire lunch period is 45 minutes. Students have about 20 minutes to eat and about 20 minutes outside, with a few minutes in between for transitions.
Our kitchen staff has done a great job getting things running smoothly and reducing wait time.
Early Student Pick-Up
We know appointments come up during the school day, and sometimes an early pick-up is unavoidable. To help us protect classroom learning time, we are asking families to let us know about planned early dismissals as early as possible.
If you know your child will need to leave early for an appointment or another non-emergency reason, please call the office in advance. Our office will prepare a pass and get it to the teacher without interrupting instruction. At the appropriate time, the teacher will give the pass to your child, and your child can report to the office to meet you.
As we get closer to dismissal, things become very busy throughout the building. For that reason, we ask that any planned early pick-ups take place before 3:30 p.m. After 3:30 p.m., we will avoid interrupting classrooms for non-emergency, last-minute dismissal changes and ask that students follow their normal dismissal routine.
This small step helps us avoid calling into classrooms while teachers are in the middle of a lesson and keeps learning moving for everyone. It also helps us get your child ready to go when you arrive—so you can make it to those pesky dentist appointments on time!

The McKinny-Vento Act-Support for Families in Temporary Living Situations
Brighton Area Schools is part of a consortium that supports students and families experiencing temporary living situations. Assistance may include financial support for educational needs, referrals for housing and clothing, and other resources and services.
To help ensure students receive the support they need, school staff work to identify students who may be living in situations such as emergency shelters or transitional housing, motels or hotels, cars, parks or other public spaces, or shared housing due to a loss of housing or economic hardship.
The district’s homeless liaison is Starr Acromite, and each school has trained staff members available to help families access support and resources.
For additional information or assistance, please contact Starr Acromite at 810-299-4040.
