RMS Monday Message

We are excited to welcome our new and former students and their families to Rombout Middle School!

The Monday Message is a bi-weekly newsletter that is meant to keep the RMS Community up to date on important information and upcoming events.

It has been busy at our building since the last school bus pulled off of the property, with construction occurring on both of our parking lots and roof. On top of that, our custodial team has continued to do an excellent job, as always, making sure our building is ready for students in just a few weeks.

Student schedules for the 2023-2024 school year will be available to students and families on PowerSchool and sent home in the mail beginning tomorrow 8/22.

Good morning parents/guardians,

I hope you are all having a great summer! We are looking forward to welcoming the incoming 6th graders to RMS! The purpose of this email is to provide you with information about our anticipated orientation date. I only say anticipated as RMS is currently undergoing a number of improvements to the property and building. We need to ensure everything is ready for you to enter the school.

The orientation is split into 2 sessions based on the elementary school your student attended. If they did not attend one of our four elementary schools, they may attend either session. The sessions are split to allow us to better assist you and lessen how many people we have in the cafeteria and hallways at a time.

Incoming 6th Grade Orientation Date - Tuesday, August 29th

Session 1 - 9:00am - 11:30am (Glenham & JVF)

Session 2 - 1:00pm - 3:30pm (South & Sargent)

Both sessions will begin in the RMS cafeteria at the start time (9am and 1pm) with a short presentation from the RMS administration. After the presentation you will be able to walk around the building to assist your student with finding their classrooms.

Schedules will also be available at the orientation.

Each school year it is important for parents to update their information on Parent Portal. Please take the time and complete the "Returning Student Registration Form" and make sure phone numbers, email addresses, and addresses associated with your account are correct. Communication from RMS and the BCSD is linked to this demographic information. Directions are below for creating an account as well as completing the RSR Form. If you run into any issues, submit a "help ticket" to our Technology Dept. and they will assist you. (parentsupport@beaconk12.org).

We have some updates and changes to the RMS Guidance Department! First, as many of you know, Ms. Manson retired at the end of last school year and we hope that she is enjoying her much deserved retirement!

Next, we would like to welcome our two new additions to the Guidance Department (pictured below): Ms. Kelly Patterson (left) and Ms. Stella Virgadamo (right). They are both very excited to begin the school year to work with our students and families!

Girls in Sports Day 2023 will be Saturday, 9/23! Girls at RMS in grades 6-8 are strongly encouraged to attend this event! Our Varsity Coaches and players will be running mini clinics for all the sports that Beacon Athletics has to offer. This is a great opportunity to get involved and try many different sports in one day. Girls will be separated by age and all equipment will be provided. Modified practices begin on or after September 11, 2023 besides Modified Football which begins Tuesday, September 5th. Students will not be authorized to begin practice unless they are registered to Family ID. Family ID opened on August 14th for modified athletes and students will not be allowed to participate in sports until their registration has been approved. Questions on FamilyID and/or needed physicals should be directed to Nurse Amber Klemann (klemann.a@beaconk12.org) for Modified Sports.
