Counselor's Corner
Supporting Our Huskies Every Step of the Way!
The DTMS Counseling Department has been busy visiting classrooms and connecting with students through our Classroom Guidance Lessons. These lessons are designed to help students feel supported, understand available resources, and develop the skills they need to have a successful middle school experience.
🎯 This Month’s Guidance Topics
💬 Role of the School Counselor
Students learned how their school counselors are here to support their academic, social-emotional, and future success. We discussed when and how students can reach out to a counselor, the types of concerns counselors can help with, and the importance of asking for help when needed.
🎒 Middle School Expectations
Students reviewed important expectations for being successful in middle school, including attendance, academics, organization, responsible decision-making, positive behavior, and self-advocacy. We encouraged students to take ownership of their choices and to seek support before small challenges become bigger ones.
❤️ Our Goal
Through classroom guidance, individual support, and collaboration with families and staff, our counseling team is committed to helping every student feel valued, supported, and empowered to succeed.
Together, we are building confident, responsible, and successful Huskies! 🐾
Health Corner
Message From Our School Nurse
Students may return to school once fever-free (under 100.4°F) for 24 hours without fever-reducing medicine. The same wait applies after vomiting or diarrhea.
Common fall illnesses include colds, flu, strep throat, stomach bugs, and allergies. Strep needs a doctor's test and antibiotics.
To stay well:
- Get the annual flu shot.
- Wash hands for 20 seconds.
- Aim for 8 to 10 hours of sleep.
- Don't share drinks or earbuds.
Call your doctor for trouble breathing, fever lasting over three days, or dehydration. Call 911 in an emergency.
When reporting an absence, please tell us the reason and call 956-323-2810.
