Our Lady of the Cape Primary School
Newsletter - 23rd April 2026
Dear Parents and Community Members,
I hope you had a relaxing holiday break at home with your families and a very special Easter season.
This week, we begin the second term of the school year. Please keep an eye on the Term Calendar on our website to keep up to date with things that are happening throughout the term.
Stations of the Cross
At the end of Term 1, we remembered the last days of Jesus’ life on earth through the Stations of the Cross, led by Year 6 Student Leadership Council.
National School Improvement Tool (NSIT) – Parent Survey
Our school will soon be inviting parents and carers to complete the National School Improvement Tool (NSIT) Parent Survey. This survey provides valuable feedback to help inform school planning and continuous improvement.
We strongly encourage all families to take part when the survey opens. Further details, including access information and closing dates, will be shared shortly.
ANZAC Day
Students from all year groups are invited to participate in the community march and commemoration service on ANZAC Day in Dunsborough. Special thanks to those who are planning to attend to represent our school. We are grateful to be able to show strong community support and look forward to a large group in attendance. Added bonus is getting to hear the OLC Choir singing ‘I am Australian’.
School Commemoration
Our school will commemorate ANZAC Day on Friday 24 April, commencing at 11.15am. All welcome!
School Advisory Council Meeting
The next meeting will be held on Tuesday 19 May at 5.00pm in the Staff Room.
P&F Meeting
The next P&F Meeting will be held on Thursday 14 May at 9.00am in the Staff Room. Come along, have a cuppa, and find out about the upcoming P&F projects. I am so grateful for our P&F Executive and Class Representatives, who are a vital part of our OLC community. Here are the prizes from the very successful recent P&F Easter Raffle:
Mother’s Day
Our P&F are organising a Mother’s Day raffle and flower orders this year. More info to follow from the P&F. We will have a special Mother’s Day Liturgy on Friday 8 May at 9.00am in the Hall, led by the Year 1 students.
Morning tea for all mothers and mothering figures will follow the liturgy.
Cross-Country and Wednesday morning Running Club
On Wednesday mornings, many students challenge themselves to be active and run laps around the oval. Each year, our school participates in an Interschool Cross Country event with other schools. This year, the Interschool Cross Country will be held on Thursday 30 July at Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School. We will have our own Cross-Country event on Thursday 18 June and the fastest runners from Years 3-6 will be selected on this day to be part of the Interschool Team. Students might like to consider Wednesday morning Running Club as a good way to train for the Cross Country.
Join our Staff Team
Do you know someone who is a passionate Early Childhood Educator and would like to join our staff? We are looking for a Pre-Kindy and Kindy teacher, 4 days per week, for Semester 2. Please see our website for more information:
Hero Hunter Day
Our Pre-primary classes celebrated Hero Hunter Day by dressing up as their favourite superhero, bringing a donation to support 'Hero Hunter', an incredible organisation that provides vital support to families facing childhood cancer. This was in support of our friend Riley and his family, who have recently been undergoing treatment for childhood cancer. We are so pleased to have Riley back at school with us this year!
Kindergarten 2027 Enrolments
Interviews will continue this term for the Kindergarten 2027 class. If you have a child who was born between 1.7.22 and 30.6.23 they are eligible to enrol in Kindergarten commencing in 2027.
Siblings of existing students need to complete enrolment forms. If you have a younger sibling who would like to attend Kindergarten next year, please ensure you have let the office know as a matter of priority, as we would not want siblings to miss out. There are quite a few siblings that we know of whose parents have not yet submitted enrolment forms. Although siblings are guaranteed enrolment, if we have not received applications the places in Kindy may fill up with new families.
Nature Playground
At OLC, we are constantly reviewing to make sure our playgrounds are safe for our students. Recently, our groundsman, Mr Rob, has been making improvements to the climbing wall to adjust the size of the gaps between the wooden struts, to reduce the risk of injury. I think you will agree, he has done a wonderful job. It looks fantastic and is even safer for our kids!
Year 6 Camp
Our Year 6 class, together with their teachers, are making memories this week as they head to their much-anticipated school camp at Woodman Point Recreation Camp in Perth. We look forward to hearing all their stories.
Think U Know – Cyber Safety Session
Dunsborough Police will present a Think U Know cyber safety session for parents on Tuesday, 2nd June 6.00pm in the school hall. Parents from all year levels are invited to attend this informative session about keeping children safe online.
Little Seedlings
Our playgroup recommenced for Term 2 on Wednesday this week, 8.45am-9.45am. All welcome

Here are some tips from the Big Life Journal ‘Things I wasn’t taught but I will be teaching my Kids’.
ANZAC Day Public holiday
Please note that next Monday 27 April, is a public holiday. There is no school for students next Monday.
Have a wonderful week.
May God bless you.

Principal
Book Fair - May 12 & 14th
The Book Fair is a fantastic way to encourage your kids reading more with the families. Depending on the amount of money spent, OLC library gets a percentage to spend on books and we take some of this as cash so we can support local bookstores.
Parents are welcome to attend the bookfair before and after school:
Tuesday 12th May: 8-8.40am
Lunchtime 12.45-1.10pm
3-4pm
**CLOSED WEDNESDAY**
Thursday 14th May: 8-8.40am
Lunchtime 12.45-1.10pm
3-3.30pm
If your child is bringing cash, please limit it to $20. We are not responsible for if it gets lost etc.
There will also be a simple competition open to all students regardless of whether they buy a book or not. There is one prize per year level, allowing your child to choose a book to their liking.
EFTPOS facilities are available
Lost Property
We have a large amount of lost property, shoes, bathers, towels and uniform items. Please check to see if any of your child/ren's items are there as these will be donated in Week 4 if not claimed.
Crosswalk Attendant
The paid position of crosswalk attendant has still not been filled. We have many students who walk or ride to school, and need to cross Cape Naturaliste Road each day. Their safety is a great concern for us. Until an attendant is appointed, we will endeavour to provide school staff to attend the crossing. Please note that students who ride their bikes to school will need to wait for supervision before walking their bikes when on school grounds to get to the crossing.
We are working closely with the Dunsborough Police to promote the position and would appreciate your assistance in spreading the word if you know of anyone who would be available.
For more information you can contact the Children's Crossing Unit on (08) 6274 8731 or email on childrenscrossingsunitsmail@police.wa.gov.au.
