From Principal Honeycutt
As we continue our work together this school year, I want to take a moment to say thank you to our parents and families for your continued support and commitment to your students.
Your partnership matters. The encouragement you provide at home, the conversations you have with your children, and the trust you place in our school make a meaningful difference in their growth—academically, socially, and emotionally.
I also want to thank you for taking the time to read this newsletter each week. Staying informed and connected helps strengthen the bond between home and school, and we truly value your engagement.
We are grateful for your support, your involvement, and your shared dedication to helping our students thrive. It is a privilege to work alongside such a supportive school community.
With appreciation,
Nicholas

Shared Again for 8th Grade Families
Dear Parents and Family,
We are writing to inform you of an important update to our late work policy for all 8th grade students. Beginning the second semester, students will have 10 school days from the original due date to submit late assignments for credit. After this 10-day window, late work will no longer be accepted. Late assignments may be penalized and not receive full credit. Previously, work was accepted throughout the entire nine weeks.
This change is intended to help students develop stronger time-management, organization, and responsibility skills. As students prepare to transition to high school, it is important that they learn to manage deadlines and understand the expectations that will be placed on them in future academic and career settings.
We appreciate your support in encouraging your child to keep up with assignments, communicate with teachers when challenges arise, and use available resources such as after school study labs, after/before school tutoring, community nights, and in school advisory time. If you have any questions or concerns about this policy, please feel free to reach out to your child’s teachers.
Thank you for your continued partnership in supporting student success.
Sincerely,
The 8th Grade Team

Post shared from Mrs. Zamarra...
When I asked my 7th-graders to create PSAs to help their fellow students prepare for the impending storm, Diego scoffed at my requirements to include colors and images. He rolled his eyes at my suggested titles (eg 'Be prepared; not scared!') and proclaimed "NO ONE is going to read them." He proceeded to hang up his self-titled poster-- "Be Safe with Diego!" -- in a spot his girlfriend was bound to see. I love that he added "family," which wasn't even on our class-sourced list of suggestions. Part of me questioned whether to talk about winter storm preparedness with the kids, when several of them are still struggling with the aftermath of Helene, but I hope that posters like Diego's, even in its simplicity, helped students feel a sense of control and agency in spite of the unknown. For all of us Southerners un-used to such extremes, I hope we can rest knowing we've prepared in our own practical and unique ways for the uncertainty ahead.
