A MESSAGE FROM THE ATHLETIC DIRECTOR
As we approach the midway point of our sports year, I wanted to take a moment to discuss an essential aspect of our student-athletes' development - sportsmanship.
A Linden, we believe that sports offer a unique opportunity for our students to learn valuable life lessons, including teamwork, dedication, and respect for others. Central to this philosophy is the concept of sportsmanship. Our coaches and staff are dedicated to instilling the principles of good sportsmanship in our student-athletes, and we know that you, as parents and guardians, play a crucial role in this process as well.
What is sportsmanship, and why is it so important? Sportsmanship is more than just playing by the rules. It encompasses a range of behaviors, including respect for opponents, officials, and one's teammates. It involves accepting victory and defeat with grace, showing empathy and support for those who are injured, and playing with integrity, and honesty. Sportsmanship is the foundation upon which our student-athletes build their character and the foundation of successful and enjoyable athletic competition.
Here are some important aspects of sportsmanship that we encourage our student-athletes to uphold.
1. Respect for Opponents: Encourage your child to treat their opponents with respect, both n and off the field. Applaud good plays, even if they are made by the opposing team, and avoid unsportsmanlike behavior such as taunting or trach-talking.
2. Respect for Officials: Our officials work hard to ensure fair play. Encourage your child to accept their decisions, even if they disagree. Remember that officials are human and may make mistakes, just as players do.
3. Win and Lose with Dignity: Winning and losing are both part of the game. Teach your child to celebrate victory with humility and accept defeat with grace. These experiences are opportunities for growth and learning.
4. Support Teammates: Emphasize the importance of teamwork and supporting one's teammates. A strong team is built on trust, cooperation, and mutual respect.
5. Honesty and Fair Play: Integrity is a core component of sportsmanship. Encourage your child to play fairly, avoid cheating, and adhere to the rules of the game.
We appreciate your support in reinforcing these principles with your child. By working together, we can create a positive and respectful sports environment that benefits all involved, not just during their time at Linden Community Schools, but in their future endeavors as well.
If you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions regarding our approach to sportsmanship, please feel free to contact me or our athletic department. We value your input and are committed to creating the best possible experience for our student-athletes.
Thank you for your continued support of our student-athletes and their growth as both competitors and individuals. We look forward to a successful remainder of the school year and seeing you at our upcoming games and events.
Yours in Athletics,
Pete Gleason

Softball, Cross Country and LAX Parents Work Concessions on Friday Night.
Support Our Athletes — Volunteer at the Concession Stand!
There’s no better way to support our student-athletes than by lending a helping hand right here at home. One of the biggest ways our community makes a difference is through volunteering at concession stands during athletic events at Linden High School.
Every dollar raised through concession sales goes directly back to our athletic programs—helping fund equipment, uniforms, team travel, facility improvements, and other essential needs that make our sports programs successful.
Volunteering is simple, fun, and makes a real impact. Whether you’re a parent, grandparent, alumni, or community member, just a few hours of your time helps create opportunities for our athletes to thrive.
We also invite you to get more involved by attending the Linden Athletic Booster Club meetings, held on the second Tuesday of each month. Contact the Athletic Office for meeting times and details on how to sign up for concession shifts.
👉 Your time = stronger programs, better experiences, and more opportunities for our student-athletes.
Thank you for being a part of the Linden Eagles family and for supporting our teams on and off the field!

Linden Student-Athletes Attend Annual FML Sportsmanship Summit at Swartz Creek High School
Twelve Linden High School student-athletes recently attended the MHSAA Sportsmanship Summit held at Swartz Creek High School. The event brought together student leaders from across the FML Conference to discuss the importance of respect, integrity, and leadership in athletics. Participants engaged in team-building activities, group discussions, and workshops focused on promoting positive sportsmanship both on and off the field. Our athletes represented Linden with pride, demonstrating the values that define Eagle athletics and a commitment to fostering a culture of character within our sports programs.
Terry Hessbrook and the B4 Foundation Speaks At Sportsmanship Summit
The Flint Metro League Annual Sportsmanship Summit brought together 12 student-athletes from each league school to share their perspectives on what true sportsmanship means. Participants had the privilege of hearing from Terry Hessbrook, who spoke passionately about his B#4 Foundation, an organization dedicated to promoting mental health awareness and suicide prevention through education, outreach, advocacy, and community service.

EAGLE PRIDE IN ACTION
Linden Families,
I want to take a moment to highlight something truly special from the final JV Football game of the season. After the final whistle, our players made a point to shake the referees’ hands as a show of class, respect, and sportsmanship.
This simple gesture spoke volumes about the character of our student-athletes and the values we work to instill every day — respect, integrity, and leadership on and off the field.
Please take a moment to acknowledge and celebrate this with your students. It’s moments like these that make us proud to be Linden Eagles.
GO EAGLES!
