Winter Olympics and Stanley Olympics

Last week our senior students had a fantastic week across both Winter Olympics at Totara Springs Sports Camp and our Stanley Olympics back at school.

Our Winter Olympics team had been training throughout the term across a wide range of sports, and it was fantastic to finally see all of that preparation come together. Stanley Avenue School did us incredibly proud, winning archery, athletics, pickleball, croquet, long ball and darts, finishing runner up in tennis and placing sixth overall. A huge thank you to the parents who gave up their week to come away and support the team, along with everyone who came out to visit during the week. We are also extremely grateful to the students from Te Aroha College, many of whom are former Stanley Avenue students, who gave up their time throughout the term to help train our team across a range of sports. It was a great example of the sporting talent and support we have within our wider community.

Back at school, the remainder of our senior students took part in Stanley Olympics, with a range of sports, challenges and activities across the week.

It was great at assembly today to watch videos from both events and give the rest of the school a glimpse of what our senior students got up to. We are extremely proud of everyone involved.

Rooms 7 and 8 Update

Our weather tightness project in Rooms 7 and 8 is progressing really well and is currently ahead of schedule. The outside cladding has already been removed and the new weatherboards are well underway. Rooms 7 and 8 have also settled nicely into their temporary spaces in the library and Room 13. It is great to see the progress happening so quickly and we are looking forward to seeing the transformation of these classrooms over the coming months. We will continue to keep everyone updated as the project progresses.

Attendance and Winter Illness

It feels like we are starting to come through the worst of what has been a very tough flu season. Thank you to our families for keeping a close eye on children who have been unwell and for seeking medical advice when needed. We are beginning to see our attendance rates improve again, which is great to see. Please continue to keep children at home when they are genuinely unwell. At the same time, if your child is well enough to be at school, it is really important that they attend. Attendance continues to be a major focus for both our school and the Ministry of Education, and we know that regular absence can have a significant impact on learning.

🏅 Stanley Olympics – What an Action-Packed Week!

Week 6 saw the Stanley Olympics kick off, and what a fantastic week it was! Our students embraced every challenge, stepped outside their comfort zones, and gave their very best with enthusiasm, determination and fantastic attitudes.

Monday saw us take on the Police Challenge. A huge thank you to Constable Brian for leading the way! Students worked together through a series of team challenges that tested their ability to communicate, strategise and collaborate while completing a range of pressure tests. It was the perfect way to get us ready for MasterChef at TAC, where we put our teamwork into action and made delicious fettuccine. Yum!

On Wednesday, we headed to the RSA, where their amazing volunteers introduced us to 8-ball, snooker, indoor bowls and darts. The students had a fantastic time learning new skills and trying something completely different.

Thursday brought another exciting challenge as we were hosted by the wonderful Matamata Croquet Club. Their patience, encouragement and support helped our students quickly find their feet, with some fantastic and very competitive games that came right down to the wire!

To finish the week with a bang, Friday saw us head to Hamilton to watch the new Spider-Man movie before unleashing our energy at Ninja Valley. What an action-packed way to finish an incredible week!

A huge thank you to all of our amazing parent helpers. Your time, energy and support made such a difference and helped make Stanley Olympics Week such a memorable experience for our students. Team Ruru appreciates each and every one of you!

Patrick Norman has again been selected for the Waikato Team competing at the XP Gymnastics Nationals at the end of this month in Tauranga at Bay Park Arena. This is a fantastic achievement for Patrick who has been competing and training this year towards this achievement. He is competing at Level 4 MAG (Male Artistic Gymnastics).

Patricks team this year has been winning all of the competitions they've attended and they have a very good chance at a podium finish including top spot at this years Nationals.

Nationals comes with considerable extra costs for his family including his entry fees, gear and travel for extra team trainings and the competition event.

Nothing Naughty have partnered with Waikato Gym to support the competitors. A portion of sales made of their bar boxes goes to the competitor to put towards costs.

If you would like to help patrick achieve his goal of competing at this years national tournament please use the link below to order some bars from Nothing Naughty.
