Big T Weekly
November 14, 2025
Principal's Message
Dear Big T Families,
What a wonderful couple of weeks it has been! We’re heading into Thanksgiving break with full hearts and a lot to celebrate.
Chili Supper & Silent Auction
Our 74th Annual Chili Supper and Silent Auction was a huge success!
We raised over $20,000 — and every dollar goes right back into supporting students, classrooms, and school programs.
A huge thank you to our incredible PTA and to everyone who volunteered, donated baskets, and came out to support our school. We are so grateful for this amazing community!
Zoo Field Trip
Our whole-school zoo trip was another highlight!
Students learned so much about animal habitats, conservation, and environmental stewardship while exploring the zoo. It was a day full of curiosity, learning, and excitement.
A big thank you to all our parent chaperones for helping make the day smooth and successful.
Looking Ahead: i-Ready Mid-Year Testing
After Thanksgiving break, we will begin our i-Ready mid-year testing.
This assessment helps us understand student growth so far this year and plan how to best support each learner. It’s an important tool for teachers and students as we work together toward continued progress.
Attendance Matters in Elementary School
As we head into the winter months, we want to highlight how important regular attendance is for our elementary students. Research for early learners shows that:
Students who miss just 2 days a month (about 10% of the year) often struggle to build strong reading and math foundations.
Chronic absence in K–2 is strongly linked to difficulties in reading by 3rd grade.
Consistent attendance helps students build routines, confidence, friendships, and academic success.
Thank you for helping ensure your child is at school and ready to learn whenever possible — it truly makes a difference!

Messages From The Office
* When your student is absent it is a good idea to reach out to their teacher to get work to do at home. However, still call the attendance line or email the office to excuse the absence. Teachers are busy and may not have time to let the office know that the absence was excused through them.
You can now excuse the absence through the parent portal if that is more convenient for you.
* If your student is absent due to an appointment, please get a medical note from the clinic and send it to the front office.
* Remember, if you need to change how your student normally goes home please call or email the office before 2:30 PM. Stacey.faykosh@tsd.org or 970-613-5600
* Please remember that toys are to remain at home. They can be a distraction in the classroom and there are tears if the toy disappears.
**Small lost and found items are usually kept at the office.
