Sorry for the delay in sending last week's Newsletter.

Dear JAC Families,

We had a great week of learning at JAC! The garden club is in full swing and working to get our raised beds ready for planting. We had a successful Student Council Compassion Project and donated 5 boxes of hygiene items to the WISH Project. Many thanks for your donations and support of others within our community.

We ended the week with a fun spirit day, “Anything but a Backpack!” We sure had some creative ways of bringing things to school today (baby carriages, laundry baskets, a mini shopping cart, a Disney Popcorn Bucket, etc).

Have a wonderful weekend,
Ms. Kennelly and Ms. Holmgren

Spirit Calls Spirit Calls

We made a positive SPIRIT Call this week for:

  • A 3rd grader asked a classmate if they needed help because her hands were full. He helped another student come to speech group and pulled up a chair for him. And he wanted to help another student who was upset by giving them putty.
  • Another 3rd grader did a great job helping a classmate. She helped him use his multiplication chart as a tool and was very kind and patient helping him work through the problems.
  • Two 3rd graders are hard workers! They enter the WIN room ready to learn and put their best effort into every assignment. Their perseverance have paid off - they have grown so much as a mathematician this year and continue to grow each day. Their teacher is proud of their hard work!
  • During chorus, a 5th grader asked another student who had not been asked to join another group to join hers without being asked. She made the student very happy!

FLOWERS TO EMPOWER

Now Enrolling for 2026! Zoom Sessions: 4/6 and 4/8

Flowers to Empower is a Westford-based nonprofit that empowers girls in grades 5–12 through flower farming, entrepreneurship, and philanthropy. Our student members, called Farmhers, plant and harvest flowers, run a real flower stand at local markets, hold leadership roles with real responsibilities, and vote on how to donate a portion of their earnings to organizations they care about. They also go on adventures: winter hikes, Cape Cod bike rides, sunrise walks on Salisbury Beach. In 2025, our Farmhers sold $7,400 in flowers and donated $2,000 back to the Westford community.

We are now accepting new members for 2026. The program is free to join. Girls in grades 5–12 are welcome with no experience needed, just a willingness to show up and try. Join us for a free Zoom information session on April 6 or April 8 at 7:00 PM to learn more.

WESTFORD ACADEMY BASKETBALL CLINIC

The Westford Academy Boys' basketball program led by Head Coach Chris Bramanti and members of the Westford Academy Boys' and Girls’ Basketball programs will host various basketball clinics and the annual 4 on 4 summer league this summer. Click here for more information

The clinics are designed for hoopsters CURRENTLY in grades 1-8 who wish to have fun learning the game of basketball and/or begin training for summer and fall leagues through a series of competitive and challenging drills. The premise of the 4 on 4 league is that with only four players on the court at a time, each player will be more involved and active in the game. Each player will learn more individual basketball moves, will learn to move without the ball, cut, set screens, shoot, rebound, and play individual and team defense – all without having to worry about following additional instructions from a coach.

WA GIRLS' BASKETBALL SUNDAY CLINIC - GR. 2 - 5

Time: 5:15-6:45

Dates: SUNDAYS - 4/12, 4/26, 5/3, 5/10, 5/17, 5/31, 6/7

Place: Westford Academy Main Gym

The WA Girls' Basketball program is running a clinic for girls in Grades 2 through 5 on Sundays this spring. These clinics will be run in the Main Gym at Westford Academy, and Varsity coach Cammy Desrochers, JV coach Asia Ewing and members of the WA Girls' Varsity basketball team will be leading the drills and coaching the girls. Please email Program Assistant Russ Coward at rcoward@westfordk12.us if you have any questions.

WESTFORD ACADEMY LAST NIGHT VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY

This year, the Westford Academy Class of 2026 will graduate on June 5, 2026. While high school may feel like a lifetime away for your child, you may have a neighbor, babysitter, or coach who is part of the Class of 2026. Help give the seniors an amazing send off at Last Night, a substance free event held at Westford Academy where students play games, win prizes and enjoy entertainment together.

It takes over 300 volunteers and generous donations from the community to pull off this annual event for the graduating seniors. By volunteering your time, or donating a raffle item, or monetary donation, you are helping to keep this tradition alive. We want this event to continue on for all of our kids for years to come but can't make it happen without your help. For more details on this incredible event, visit walastnight.org
