McDill Elementary Parent Newsletter
November 2025
From the Principal's Desk ....
Hello McDill Families,
This time of year reminds me of how grateful I am to be part of the exceptional McDill Timberwolf community. Our school thrives because of the incredible team behind the scenes.
Thank you to our dedicated teachers for making learning exceptional, to our students for their hard work and significant progress this quarter, and to our custodial and office staff for maintaining a smooth, safe environment.
I especially want to thank all our families. Your support and home-to-school connection are the cornerstones of our success.
This quarter was filled with amazing activities, including Grandparents' and Special Friends' Day, Fire Prevention Day, Green Apple Day of Service and a visit from the SPASH Football team.
Looking ahead, we anticipate exciting field trips (to Boston School Forest, to the UWSP Education Day, to the movies and bowling) and fun PTO family celebrations, like Bingo with Santa!
I hope everyone has a great extended break and I look forward to seeing you all in December!

McDill Elementary School Unveils New Playground
A new McDill Elementary School playground has been constructed on the north side of the school.
An unveiling on Thursday, October 30th, was held to thank the donor for his tremendous generosity and to officially welcome students to the new playground. Thanks to the generous donation by community member, Tom Newton, $30,000 was invested into McDill’s newest playground. The upgrades feature designs tailored specifically for our youngest students, ensuring a fun and safe place to learn and play.

THURSDAY is the big day! Please take note of all the reminders below, especially those regarding parking ....
- Students will be required to go back to their classrooms after they are excused from the gym and will be dismissed at the 3:35 bell.
- Please communicate with your child that morning regarding how they will go home after the concert!
We kindly ask that parents/guardians/grandparents go back to their vehicles after the concert and enter the pick-up line, following normal school safety procedures. Doing so will help to eliminate any confusion and ensure that all our students are accurately accounted for. - If it is necessary to take a student from school prior to the 3:35 bell, parents/guardians/grandparents will be required to sign them out from the office. Please know that this early dismissal will be recorded on the child’s attendance as an R - Removed Early. It will then appear on their report card as a TARDY.
- PARKING: In addition to the McDill parking lot, cars can park on the west side of School Street (non-curb side) and any of the side streets across from the school. (When parking on any side street, please be respectful of the homeowners property and do not block any driveways/walkways.)
NOTE: Parking is NOT allowed on Elm Street or in front of the school (the curb side) of School Street. Since it is a Thursday, we will have our normal 4K pickup & Little Scholars bus parking in this area. - Please be respectful of others during the concert and silence your cell phone, as well as the volume on any other electronic devices.
Please share this information with grandparents or other guests coming to the concert. As always, students WILL NOT be able to leave school before the bell rings with any adult who is not given prior permission (via a note, call or email from the parent) to sign that child out of school.
The students have been working very hard on their program and are eager to share it with family and friends. We hope many of you are able to attend!

Our 2nd graders had the opportunity to expand their knowledge of CKLA and apply it to a STEM LEGO activity. Students worked together to build a model that represented the Earth's rotation. As the Earth rotated on its axis, students were able to see how the rotation causes the cycle of daytime and nighttime.

GOOD ATTENDANCE HELPS KIDS SUCCEED IN SCHOOL
We understand that there are times when absences are unavoidable due to illness or family emergencies. However, we encourage you to prioritize your child's attendance and work with us to minimize any disruptions to their education. In an effort to ensure consistency across all elementary sites in the Stevens Point Area Public School District, please be aware of the following expectations regarding how attendance is documented for all K-6 students:
Any absence that extends beyond thirty minutes at the beginning or at the end of the day will be counted as a half day absence. Any time less than thirty minutes will be documented as a tardy. If your child is absent for 3.25 hours or more, it will be counted as a full day absence.
If your child is absent for more than five days, you will be notified with an auto-generated letter from their school.
A similar letter will follow if absences exceed ten days. At this point, you will be asked to provide documentation of medical and/or mental health appointments, and a school attendance problem-solving meeting will be scheduled.
If your child is experiencing challenges that affect their attendance, please reach out to our school staff. We are here to support you and provide resources to help ensure your child can attend school regularly. The school will continue to work closely with our families to ensure good communication regarding necessary absences and the best outcome for student success.
