CATCHING UP WITH... Mrs. Edmonston
It's been another fantastic week at Canyon View Elementary School. Here are just a few highlights:
Our Coyote community went above and beyond to celebrate Teacher and Staff appreciation this week. We are so grateful! On Friday, TK-3rd grade took a fieldtrip to Poway Performing Arts Center to see The Little Mermaid, which featured many of our Coyotes. Rumor has it that King Triton was even played by our very own PTO President, Kyle Miholich!
This week we will continue our CAASPP testing, so be sure your children get good sleep and a healthy breakfast to set them up for success! On Monday, our Third Grade is headed to the Del Mar Fairgrounds for a garden fieldtrip. On Tuesday, our Westview Ambassadors will join us for a playground play-date. On Wednesday, the Ambassadors will be back to present a Character Counts Assembly on the topic of Safety. Thursday will be a VAPA Day and Friday is the Coyote Round-Up and Silent Auction.
đHappy Mother's Day to all of our Coyote mothers and mother figures. đ
Let's Make it a GREAT week!

- 5th graders kicked off our energy unit with building paper ball runs to demonstrate energy, force, friction, and acceleration.
4th grade expanded their knowledge on animal adaptations and learned about cephalopods. They dissected squid to learn about their anatomy and even got to write their initials with squid ink.

Specially Curated Books from Ms. Alice Burge, CVES Library & Media Tech (& CVES Classified Employee of the Year!)

Reading diverse and engaging picture books helps kids to embrace different perspectives, cultivate understanding and empathy and engage in conversations with their families about their unique heritage and experiences.

Too Many Mangos, written by Tammy Paikai, illustrated by Don Robinson
Namaste is a Greeting, written by Suma Subramaniam, illustrated by Sandya Prabhat
What is namaste? Itâs found in a smile, a friendship, a celebration. It exists in silence; it can be said when youâre happy or when youâre feeling low. For one small girl in a bustling city, namaste (âI bow to youâ) is all around her as she and her mother navigate a busy marketplaceâand when she returns with a little plant and chooses to give it to an elderly neighbor, it can be seen in the caring bond between them. This sweet, colorful picture book makes the concepts of mindfulness and thoughtfulness come alive.
How to Solve a Problem: The Rise (and Falls) of a Rock-Climbing Champion, written by Ashima Shiraishi, illustrated by Yao Xiao
To a rock climber, a boulder is called a "problem," and you solve it by climbing to the top. There are twists and turns, falls and scrapes, and obstacles that seem insurmountable until you learn to see the possibilities within them. And then there is the moment of triumph, when there's nothing above you but sky and nothing below but a goal achieved. World-champion climber Ashima Shiraishi draws on her personal experiences to tell a story that challenges readers to tackle the problems in their own lives and rise to greater heights than they would have ever thought possible.
