Please Give a Warm Welcome to our New Behavior Specialist......
Hello North Oakview Families,
My name is Danie, and I’m thrilled to be joining the North Oakview team as the new Behavior Support Specialist! I bring with me years of experience working with students of all ages and backgrounds, and I’m truly passionate about helping children overcome challenges so they can thrive both academically and socially.
Before joining North Oakview, I taught nutrition classes to elementary students through the YMCA. My passion for behavior support began while working in the classroom of a residential facility and continued to grow as I supported middle and high school students in an alternative school setting. Through those experiences, I saw firsthand the powerful impact of equipping students with the right tools, strategies, and encouragement.
I’m truly looking forward to getting to know your children and partnering with you to help them grow, succeed, and feel confident in their learning environment. Please don’t hesitate to reach out—I’m here to support in any way I can.
Warmly,
Danie

Check In/Check Out Process
Sign In/Sign Out
We have a kiosk in the office that you may have noticed.
Your child will need their breakfast badge, every student received one at the beginning of the year.
If they do not already have it on their backpack, please start now. Let me know if they do not.
They will need it to sign in and sign out AND to get breakfast.
We are very excited about this new process. Below are the steps students will do when arriving or leaving.
Starting next year if you lose your badge you will receive the first lost one for free but after that it will cost you.
Badge - $1 Protector - $1 Reel for the protector - $1
Coming In or Leaving Early
When you first walk into the office you will notice that there is not a clipboard for signing your student in and out on. There is a Kiosk, this is for your student to sign in at.
Scan Breakfast Badge
Instead they will use their breakfast badge to scan in, remember to hold the badge about 6 inches from the camera and then their name should pop up and then they will hit close. That will automatically sign them in.
Breakfast? Lunch?
The student would then let Mrs. Miranda or Mrs. Casey know if they need a lunch and or breakfast.
As for signing out, we will still need the parent to come in and then your student can sign out
Login to ParentVue via app
On the app you can login, if your student has misplaced their breakfast badge.
Click on what Student
After clicking the student you are checking in, you will find a small + sign in the bottom left corner. Click it. A small box will appear. Click on ID card. You can also screenshot the barcode and save it in your folder within your pictures.
QR/Barcode
Then your student's personal QR code will appear. You can slide and use the QR code or the barcode.
Pick Up Reminder
FOR THE SAFETY OF STUDENTS- When picking up your child from school at the Pick-Up Line, please do not encourage your child to walk to you unattended into the parking lot. The adult at the Exit Gate is watching to ensure all children exiting into the parking lot are escorted by an adult. Please leave pets at home or in the car, enter through the entrance, and exit via the exit gate.

Laurie Keller Visit
Laurie Keller visited our 2nd, 3rd and 4th Grade readers last Friday! Students were so excited to meet Laurie Keller, and learn about her as an author and illustrator. A highlight of her presentation was definitely students being able to draw with her. Not only did they learn how to draw Arnie and Potato from her popular books, but she also taught students how to draw different expressions and add those to objects to make their own characters. It was an awesome celebration of books and creating!
Mrs. Flynn 4th grade kids created on Donut Day to celebrate the visit with Laurie Keller. After finding the area and perimeter of the paper donuts ( and yes, subtracting out the donut hole), the kids then tried to recreate the donut in edible form.

🩺 Nurse Updates
Spring has sprung!
Allergy season can bring sneezing, coughing, skin irritations, among others.
Ask your primary care provider about an OTC medication that best suits your family.
Shower after outdoor activities. Showering with gold Dial bar soap, Fels-naptha bar soap, or
Dawn dish soap (a little goes a long way) will remove oils and grime. This will decrease the
pollen left on your skin and help prevent skin irritations such as poison ivy.
Vaccine-preventable diseases such as pertussis (whooping cough) and measles are commonly
thought to be a thing of the past. Unfortunately, this is not true, and the need to immunize on time
with all recommended vaccines continues to persist. Today, there are many safe and effective
vaccines to protect against vaccine preventable diseases. Please consult your primary health
provider.
If your student needs medication at school, the NV medication permission form must be
completed. A parent/guardian must bring it in with the proper paperwork and the medication in
the original container.
You may have received a letter from the Kent County Health Department that your student did not pass a
vision screening, and a follow-up vision exam is recommended. If you do not have a vision clinic, please
call Cherry Health - Heart of the City Grand Rapids Lions Club Vision Clinic: Address: 100 Cherry St SE,
Grand Rapids, MI 49503: Phone: (616) 776-2135
