Wiggin Street Parent Update
April 24, 2026
Better Together
Dear Wiggin Street Families,
Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Spring Fun Festival! It was wonderful to see current students and families, alumni, and community members come together for such a fun and memorable evening. We hope you enjoyed the event as much as we did.
It’s hard to believe that next Friday marks the beginning of May, and with it comes many end-of-year activities. I have done my best to include all upcoming events in the schedule below. We are still awaiting confirmation from Central Office regarding the official last day of school due to the number of snow days this winter. At this time, we plan to hold Kindergarten and 5th Grade Graduation on the final day of school, which may be extended to May 29.
Lastly, I would like to invite you to join us for a walkthrough of our MVCSD elementary buildings. Our doors will be open tomorrow, Saturday, April 25, from 9:00–11:00 a.m. and Wednesday, April 29, from 5:00–7:00 p.m. These visits provide an opportunity to see firsthand both the strengths we are proud of and the challenges we continue to address. I will be available at Wiggin Street to answer questions and share insight into how our facilities impact teaching and learning each day.
Warm Regards,
Christy Grandstaff
Principal, Wiggin Street Elementary

Mrs. Clippinger's class wrote and illustrated their own books based on the series If You Give a Mouse a Cookie by Laura Numeroff. They enjoyed sharing them with both kindergarten classes.
Grades 3-5 Spring Ohio State Tests
Students in grades 3–5 will be taking the Ohio State Tests in April. Detailed testing dates are listed below. Please make every effort to schedule appointments around these dates, as it can be challenging to complete all make-up testing when there are multiple absences.
Would you like to better understand the tests and learn how to help your child be successful? Please review this helpful resource from the Ohio Department of Education & Workforce.

How Families Can Help at Home
Support strong routines
- Ensure your child gets a good night’s sleep, especially before testing days
- Provide a healthy breakfast each morning
- Arrive at school on time to avoid feeling rushed
Build confidence with simple practice
- Encourage daily reading (books, articles, or even directions/recipes)
- Have your child explain what they read to build comprehension
- Practice basic math facts and problem-solving in real-life situations
Practice test-taking strategies
- Remind your child to read directions carefully
- Encourage them to take their time and check their work
- If they get stuck, skip the question and come back to it later
- Use strategies like eliminating wrong answers to make the best choice
Promote a positive mindset
- Reassure your child to simply do their best
- Remind them that it’s okay if something feels challenging
- Encourage effort over perfection
Limit stress
- Keep evenings calm and routines consistent during testing weeks
- Avoid overscheduling activities on testing days

2026-27 Class Lists and Teacher Requests
Creating class lists is a thoughtful process that involves many factors. Our teachers meet with the next grade level team and other staff members who work closely with students to ensure that classes are balanced. Academic needs, social-emotional needs, and peer dynamics are just a few of the considerations used in this process. This work also continues throughout the summer as we become aware of new enrollments. For these reasons, we believe it is best to wait until August to share final class lists.
If you have an educational reason for requesting a teacher, please submit your request in writing by email to me at cgrandstaff@mvcsd.us no later than May 1, 2026. Also, if you know that your child will not be attending Wiggin Street next year, please let us know as soon as possible.
