Attendance
Assistant Superintendent Mrs. Verhest, shared a parent letter at the beginning of the school year about the new state of Ohio attendance policy. Letters will be sent more frequently as thresholds are met throughout the school year. Regardless of vacations, sickness or tardies notifications are sent to inform parents when the hour amounts are met. We understand that students will be sick, so doctor's notes are accepted at the front office.
- Reporting Procedure
- Report all absences by telephone to the attendance office. Please call 330-273-8106
- If a student will be absent, the parents must notify the School and provide an explanation. If prior contact is not possible, the parents should provide a written excuse as soon as possible after the student’s absence. When no excuse is provided, the absence will be unexcused and the student will be identified as truant for that school day. If the offered excuse for a student’s absence is questionable or if the number of student absences is excessive, the school staff will notify the parents of the need for improvement in the student’s attendance. Please refer to the attendance policy in the District Student Handbook.
- Picking up Early From School
- If you will be picking up your child early for an appointment, please email the teacher and the secretary Mrs. Canterbury vcanterbury@bcsoh.org
👻ONLY lead room parents and parent volunteers are permitted to attend classroom parties.🎃
Red Ribbon Week
Red Ribbon Week (10/23-10/30)
The National Family Partnership (NFP) is proud to announce the theme for the 2026 Red Ribbon Week: “Make a Difference. Be a Hero. Stay Drug Free ".™ Created by Ava Tackett, a student at Griswold Middle School in Connecticut, the theme reminds young people that everyday choices can be acts of courage and leadership. Students do not need special powers to be heroes. They can make a difference by making healthy decisions, supporting their friends and becoming positive examples in their schools and communities.

💻3rd Grade Fall OST
Dear Parents and Guardians of 3rd Grade Students,
In two weeks, all Brunswick City School District 3rd grade students will be taking the English Language Arts Ohio State Test. The assessment is given over two days; Part 1 will be administered on Wednesday, October 28, 2026 and Part 2 will be given on Thursday, October 29, 2026. During the spring, 3rd grade students will once again take the English Language Arts Ohio State Test, as well as the 3rd grade Mathematics assessment.
The purpose of the fall test is to help us better understand students’ strengths and areas of growth in the skills outlined in Ohio’s English Language Arts Learning Standards. Your child’s teacher will use the data from the assessment to help guide instruction to meet the individual instructional needs of all of our students.
There are a variety of things you can do to help prepare your student to do their best on this assessment:
Avoid doctor’s appointments and other planned absences on October 28th and 29th.
Encourage your child to get a good night of sleep.
Provide a healthy breakfast.
Ensure your child arrives at school on time.
Additionally, you can access practice resources for your child by visiting the following website: https://oh-ost.portal.cambiumast.com/families.html
Ultimately, one of the best things parents, guardians, teachers and principals can do for our students is to encourage them to do their best!
Please feel free to contact your child’s teacher or principal with any questions. Additionally, I invite you to reach out to me at any time.
Sincerely,
Patrick Geschke

🚨Important Car Line Reminder for K-5
Front of the Line
DISMISSAL ONLY
Back of the Line
DISMISSAL ONLY
🚗K-5 Car Line Update - The Double Line
Thank you for helping us create a new procedure with our "starting double line". See pictures below.
The second line is ONLY to start the process.
The car that reaches the cones or the last orange line is the LAST car in the second line, near the grass area. DO NOT join this line if there is a car in this spot.
🚨The spots for the double line will be designated by orange lines. Once these spots are filled, DO NOT continue with a double line in the circle area.🚨 Adding 8 additional spots near the front of the line will help keep cars off of Grafton Rd. See picture below.
Entering K-5 Car Line
DO NOT block the last parking spot. Instead, start or join the 2nd line within these parking spaces. WHY? You are causing traffic to back up onto Grafton.
Turning Right
This is WHY we need everyone to turn RIGHT when exiting. If you are waiting to turn left, you are holding up traffic all the way back to the circle area.
🚶🏻♀️Walkers - Melrose and Charlotte
Parents/Guardians walking up and picking up students from Melrose and Charlotte - Visitors are NOT permitted to enter the sidewalk where students are standing and waiting for their cars. Please remain on the grass near the visitor parking spots.
Driving your car into the back parking lot from Melrose to pick up your child is strictly prohibited. We have buses and vans entering. When you drive through the parking lot, you are blocking bus traffic. We also have an agreement and partnership with our neighbors to limit traffic on Melrose. Parking on Melrose to pick up your child is strictly prohibited. Please be respectful of our neighbors.
🚨School Age Students with PreSchool Siblings - Fridays
K-5 students with PreSchool siblings will follow the SAME routine on Fridays when PreSchool students are not on campus. Meaning, the routine you follow for arrival and dismissal Monday-Thursday will remain the same on Fridays.
