5th Grade Raising Awareness Panther Project
Last Friday fifth graders broke out into their specialty groups to start planning and preparing for their "Raising Awareness Walkathon", scheduled for Thursday, May 28. This week they were visited by several organizations, both in-person and virtually, as a part of the research and development component of this project.
On Tuesday, April 28, students were visited (virtually) by a representative from the Neurodiversity Alliance and they shared lots of information about what the organization does to raise awareness and to improve the educational experience and outcomes of students who learn differently, while growing the neurodiversity movement for a more equitable and inclusive society for all.
The next day, the fifth grade gathered in the Auditorium to hear from Rick Monzon, the Executive Director of The Miracle League of Westchester, to hear him talk about the amazing work they do to give Westchester children and adults with disabilities the opportunity to play baseball as team members in an organized league. He shared how they could one day become a volunteer ("a buddie") and ways they can become advocates for others with disabilities, each and every day!
New York State CBT Exam: Tuesday & Wednesday
On Tuesday, May 5 & Wednesday, May 6, all students in grades 3-5 will be taking the NYS CBT Math exam.
Testing will begin at approximately 9:00 AM each day.
We anticipate returning to a regular school schedule by around 11:30 AM.
The exams are untimed; students who are actively working will be given the time they need to complete their assessments.
Students with testing accommodations will receive them in accordance with their individual learning plans.
All students will take the Computer-Based Test (CBT) unless otherwise specified in their accommodations.
Make-up testing sessions will be available following the scheduled dates through Friday, May 15 for both exams.
PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR CHILD/CHILDREN CHARGE THEIR CHROMEBOOKS EACH NIGHT BEFORE THE EXAMS!
3rd Grade Life Cycle Unit
Third grade classes took advantage of the nice weather today to kick off their Life Cycle unit in science. Students started to place their caterpillars into individual cups so they could start caring for them. In pairs, they provided them with plenty of crushed mallow to eat and made sure there were enough holes in the tops of their cups so they could breathe. Students will begin to think and act like scientists as they begin to observe, make hypotheses, collect data and draw conclusions as they track the metamorphosis of their caterpillars into beautiful butterflies! Stay tuned for more details and updates!
