Message from the Principal
Dear SMS Families,
We hope this message finds you well as we move into the second semester here at SMS. The first semester officially ended on January 23rd, marking an exciting transition for students and staff as we rotate into new exploratory classes.
With the recent weather-related cancellations, our academic calendar is moving quickly. Before we know it, February Break (February 16th–20th) will be here. Each year, faculty and staff enjoy hearing about the experiences and adventures our students have during this time, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back on Monday, February 23rd.
As we begin the second half of the school year, we appreciate your continued partnership as we work together to support the success and well-being of every student at SMS. Please remember that after-school academic support is available every Tuesday and Thursday to help students reach their full academic potential.
Unfortunately, we had to postpone our second planned dance of the year due to inclement weather, but we are looking forward to the new date of Friday, February 6. Last year, we introduced a supervised quiet space during the dance, giving students a chance to take a brief break from the excitement. It was such a hit that we look forward to continuing to have that space available again this year.
Thank you, as always, for your ongoing support.
Respectfully,
Dr. Fisher

The Squawker
Student-Led School Newspaper Makes its Debut
Mr. Schosek's ELA Lab students did a remarkable job at creating an engaging and in-depth school newspaper, called "The Squawker," as a class project. The idea for the newspaper came from a student interest survey. It was their idea to create a school newspaper. They looked at many local newspapers to get ideas, brainstormed some topics and a name for the paper, and then they started writing content. Paper copies were printed and distributed around the school!
The next issue will be out the week before the February break.
Field Trip to Burchfield Penney
8th Grade Field Trip to Burchfield Penney Museum
The 8th-grade second quarter art field trip took students to the Burchfield Penney Art Museum on the Buffalo State campus. The students were led through the exhibits by a docent and were able to get hands on and make their own fiber arts piece.
