Welcome to the 2024/2025 School Year!!!
First Friday of the school year, we made it! I hope that your Lion(s) had a great first couple of days. Our staff has been busy working on protocols and expectations. Be ready for learning to really pick up next week!
Teachers should be reaching out soon to introduce themselves and provide information about their class. Remember you have 8 teachers, so that might mean 8 emails. Be sure to read each one. CANVAS is not an active part of our learning environment yet. We will be deploying laptops on August 20th. Please be sure to read all emails from Dowell in the next few weeks so you have a clear understanding of the 1:1 system in MISD.
I want to begin highlighting some important staff members these first few weeks to help you become familiar with the DMS family…first up, our amazing assistant principals. Dr. Jessica Fair is the proud boy mom of two amazing young men. Both attend Boyd HS. She has been in McKinney for some time serving at Webb Elementary in the GT department. She oversees safety and security, Math and Science departments. Dr. Fair serves students A-L. Mrs. Tiffany Bailey joined DMS this school year. She previously served as the testing coordinator and 504 coordinator at McKinney North High School. Her sweet husband serves as a SRO in McKinney ISD. They have an amazing daughter who will be a sophomore at TWU. She serves students M-Z, oversees ELAR and History, and serves as our testing coordinator.
We are going to show our team and organization spirit with t-shirts on certain days. Wednesdays will be college shirt day. We want to support the AVID program while promoting college readiness, so feel free to come ready to show your college spirit on Wednesdays. Fridays will be reserved for Dowell Lion spirit. We want to encourage all of our students to get involved in some way here at DMS. We look forward to seeing all of our organizations represented on Fridays…Theater, Band, Choir, Orchestra, Academic UIL, Yearbook, PALS, AVID and Athletics. Go Lions!!
Our PTO is amazing and needs your financial support. They provide so many opportunities and events for our students and staff. They treated our staff to an amazing lunch during Academy week, and have already planned a fun teacher appreciation event for them in September. Joining PTO doesn’t mean you have to volunteer, financial support is always appreciated.
Have a wonderful weekend! I bet you will all have some tired children as they get adjusted to early mornings.
The Machost family is enjoying one more weekend on the lake while our son is still home. Our daughter returned to OU a few weeks ago, so we are about to have a quiet house again.

Bus Eligibility
Transportation is available for students who live two miles or more from their assigned school. The distance a student lives from their assigned school is determined by measuring the distance from the school to the curb in front of their home.
