A NOTE FROM MRS. B
Howdy Bronco Family! Wow, we are halfway through February. Wasn’t the New Year just last week? It seems as though time is flying by, and it’s crazy to think the end of the year is closer than we can imagine. While the time may seem short, I can assure you there is still so much more for our students to learn and accomplish. Each day, hour, minute, second your child is here is so important. That’s why being on time and attendance matters so much! Attendance is not just for academic success. It allows students to learn the social skills needed and to learn the importance of routines and structure. All of these are vital to help our students grow into productive citizens. Plus, I love seeing their smiling, eager faces each day. So, let’s get our kids here every day ready to learn!
Remember, you can always find the latest Meadow ISD news on the MISD website and Facebook page, so go check them out! Also, check your kiddo’s backpack and folders for any important paper notes that may have gone home.
Don’t forget to contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions about what is going on in the classroom. We are always here to help.
It’s ALWAYS great to be a Bronco!

MRS. SANCHEZ - KINDERGARTEN
Hello parents,
Here are some learning activities going on in kindergarten.
In Phonics the students will work on digraph ck. We will read, write and spell words with digraph ck.
This week in Math we will count by tens and then ones and then write that number. We will also read number words and look for patterns when counting to 100. On Thursday, we celebrated the 100th day of school. Our 100th day activities included: a 3-digit surprise, placed 100 pieces of cereal on our ten frames, writing 100 tally marks, working on 100 estimation jar, and listening to the story, The Wolf's Chicken Stew. It was a great day for us in kindergarten.
The students need to continue to study sight words. All the students will be tested on the five new sight words on Friday.
In Reading the students have listened to several folktales, and they also had a chance to take AR tests over those stories. The students will continue to practice telling what happened in the beginning, middle and end of those stories. With every book we read aloud we work on identifying the genre, type of genre and author’s purpose.
Please continue to read those AR books to your child and ask those comprehension questions. Your child may take an AR test the next day if they listen to the story. All students need to bring their library books to school every day, because we will now have reading buddies every Thursday.
Please continue to send a water bottle each day.
Thank you,
Mrs. Sanchez
Gracias,
Sra. Sánchez

Super second graders!
We have been having so much fun learning all about theme and point of view. This week we worked on comparting The Three Little Pigs and the True Story of the Three Little Pigs. The students looked at both the wolf's and pig's points of view and will create an opinion writing on who they think is telling the truth! Whose side would you be on?
We also wrapped up our time unit and have spent the last couple of days creating a fun valentine math craft and celebrating the 100th day of school! A new spelling list will be sent home tomorrow, our next test will be next Wednesday! Please continue to encourage your child to read and practice sight words at home.

3rd Grade ELAR
Spelling:
This week's words are contractions. Students will need to be able to spell both the contraction and the two words abbreviated to form the contraction. Please monitor and help them study in order to be successful.
Reading:
We are continuing with Lonestar Reading and this week's passage is paired with last week's passage about Abe Lincoln. Both passages include multiple genres. Pairing passages across genres or embedding one genre with another will probably be tested on STAAR - Yikes, it's getting close!!
AR Reading:
Please monitor your child's reading in order to help them decode unfamiliar words and to assess their overall comprehension.
Language/Grammar:
We are continuing with our Fast Focus packets to revise and edit mini passages identifying complete sentences with correct subject/verb agreements.
Please contact me with any questions or concerns.
Mrs. McCormick

MRS. BAYER - 4TH GRADE
The 4th and 5th graders took home their Read for 15 Reading Logs this week. If they read for 15 minutes at home, please put your initials in the box on the day that it happened. Students are required to read 15 minutes per day even when we do not have school. We try to read at the beginning of each class for 15 minutes, so if the student is unable to read at home, I will put my initials in the box. I have already seen a huge improvement in the desire to read. Thank you for continuing to encourage your child to read! We are also working on informative and argumentative text. One of the best ways for kids to write an informative or argumentative text is just to have conversations in which you are either asking them to share information with you, or you ask them to tell you their opinion about something and make them support their claim. Having conversations like this with you allows them to hear your thoughts. they hear new vocabulary they might be able to use in the future, and they become confident in their ability to form an opinion and defend it.
MS. GAMEZ -5TH GRADE
Fabulous 4th Grade & Marvelous 5th Grade MATH
-In 4th Grade, we are working on shapes. Identifying different triangles and quadrilaterals.
Next stop, measurements, and measurement conversions.
-In 5th Grade, we have moved on to measurements and measurement conversions. We just finished day-2 and they took like champs. Maybe, we are going to be okay.
-I have been creating a page or page and a half of review problems for students to complete during the week and due on Friday. Now, if the students do not finish their daily assignment that too is required to get done for the next day. I have few students in 4th grade and 5th grade not turning in their assignments or the homework page I am assigning, and you will be able to see in through their grades and progress report. Please, ask your students if they have anything to complete at night because I need the work to be completed and turned in.
Thank you for your support.

A NOTE FROM OUR NURSE -RAE CAMPBELL
Parents,
I would like to remind you that if your child did not pass their vision and/or hearing screens, they need to be taken to the appropriate physician as soon as possible. I have sent another letter home with your child this week. The physician needs to fill out and sign the bottom portion of the referral letter and it needs to be returned to the office. These visits are completely covered by Medicaid. If your child does not have vision insurance or Medicaid, you may qualify for a vision voucher. Please let me know as soon as possible if you need the form to request a voucher. If your child cannot see or hear, they may be struggling in the classroom. Therefore, it is in your child's best interest to have a professional examination.
We have had several students out this week with the flu. If your child is running a fever of 100.4 or higher, please keep them home. They may not return to school until they are fever free for 24 hours without the use of tylenol or motrin. Please be diligent in reminding your children to cover their mouths and wash their hands frequently.

Padres,
